The Department of History, Political Science and Criminal Justice at Northwest Nazarene University offers Bachelor of Arts degrees and minors in History, Political Science and Criminal Justice. The Department also serves History Secondary Education and History and Social Studies Middle-Level Endorsement majors in conjunction with our Education Department.
Description of Position
The Department of History, Political Science and Criminal Justice at Northwest Nazarene University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant/associate professor position in criminal justice to begin August 2025. This position offers an exciting opportunity to shape a dynamic program and play a key role in driving the department’s growth and success. The position also provides the opportunity to develop an accelerated online certificate and degree program targeted at working adults who have interest in pursuing a career in criminal justice.
Job duties will include the following:
- Teaching 24 credits per year, four courses per semester, in support of the criminal justice major and minor.
- Mentoring and advising undergraduate students.
- Building on the existing strong program through renewed recruitment efforts and curriculum revision.
- Scholarship as described by the Boyer Model, such as, but not limited to, conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
- Serving on assigned university committees.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or related field or a J.D. with directly related experience
- Past or present experience in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or related field
- Evidence of a Christian commitment and church involvement
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or related field
- Prior teaching experience at the University level and/or demonstrated ability to develop partnerships with local law enforcement and community organizations
Compensation
The salary is determined by the educational background and experience of each applicant.
