The Department of History, Political Science and Criminal Justice at Northwest Nazarene University offers Bachelor of Arts degrees and minors in History, Political Science and Criminal Justice. The Department also serves History Secondary Education and History and Social Studies Middle-Level Endorsement majors in conjunction with our Education Department.
Description of Position
The Department of History, Political Science and Criminal Justice invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor in U.S. History beginning in the fall of 2025. Teaching responsibilities include general education surveys in U.S. History, Recent American History, and upper-level courses in support of the History and History Education majors. The area of specialty is open, and the successful candidate will have opportunities to develop new courses within the candidate’s area of expertise. The successful candidate may also have the opportunity to contribute to the University’s Honors College. In addition to teaching responsibilities the position serves as the primary advisor for the Secondary Education in History major.
Job duties will include:
- Teaching 24 credits per year (both in person and online), four courses per semester, in support of the history major and minor, as well as History Education and the general education program.
- Scholarship as described by the Boyer Model, such as, but not limited to, conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications
- Mentoring and advising undergraduate students
- Serving on assigned university committees
- Building on the existing strong program through renewed recruitment efforts and curriculum revision
- Other duties as assigned

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Earned Ph.D. in History or be ABD and near completion
- Experience teaching undergraduate students, preferably at a Christian liberal arts university
- The University requires that all candidates identify as Christians (preferably in the Wesleyan tradition) and must be in agreement with the mission and lifestyle values of NNU and willing to help advance the spiritual goals of the University.

The salary will be determined based on the educational background and experience of the candidate.
