Position Overview:
The Executive Director is the chief executive officer of the school and is responsible for providing overall leadership, strategic direction, and operational management. Reporting directly to the Board of Trustees, the Executive Director will oversee all aspects of the school’s operations, including finances, administration, staff management, and community relations. This leader is responsible for translating the vision and mission of the school into actionable goals and ensuring the school remains in compliance with applicable laws and regulations while adhering to its mission of classical education.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
- Lead the school in implementing the strategic plan developed in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
- Develop and execute long-term goals to ensure the school’s growth, sustainability, and academic excellence.
- Cultivate a school culture that aligns with the school’s mission and values, and promote its classical educational approach in all facets of the school community.
- Advise and support the Board of Directors in shaping the overall direction of the school and in developing policies that align with the school’s mission.
Operational Oversight:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the school, ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of educational programs, administrative support, and student services.
- Oversee financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and ensuring the school operates within its financial means while sustaining long-term financial health.
- Ensure compliance with all charter, state, and federal regulations and reporting requirements.
Financial Management:
- Develop and oversee the school’s annual budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility, transparency, and alignment with the school’s strategic priorities.
- Lead fundraising efforts, including grant writing, donor relations, and developing partnerships with philanthropic organizations.
- Monitor financial performance and recommend corrective actions when necessary to maintain the school’s financial health.
Staff and Faculty Leadership:
- Provide strong leadership, inspiration, and guidance to the administrative team, teaching faculty, and support staff.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment for all staff and faculty, encouraging continuous professional development and growth.
- Support recruitment, retention, and professional development for high-quality staff and faculty who are committed to the classical educational model.
- Oversee personnel management policies and practices, ensuring they align with the school’s mission and legal requirements.
Community and Stakeholder Relations:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with the school’s community, including students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, and external stakeholders.
- Act as the primary representative of the school to the public, promoting its mission and fostering a positive image in the community.
- Strengthen ties with local organizations, educational institutions, and other partners to expand opportunities for the school and its students.
- Lead efforts to engage the school’s parents and other stakeholders in the school’s mission, ensuring ongoing communication and involvement.
Governance and Board Relations:
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Board of Directors and the day-to-day operations of the school.
- Provide regular updates to the Board on school performance, financial status, strategic initiatives, and any issues that may impact the school’s operations or reputation.
- Support the Board in its governance responsibilities, including policy development, strategic planning, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Assist the Board in long-term planning and visioning, keeping them informed on developments in the educational landscape and recommending actions to maintain the school’s success.
Risk Management and Legal Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, as well as charter school regulations.
- Implement risk management strategies to protect the school’s assets and reputation, including addressing potential legal, financial, and safety issues.
- Oversee health and safety regulations, ensuring a secure and conducive environment for both students and staff.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in leadership, with at least 5 years in a senior executive or chief administrative role.
- Strong understanding of classical education and the charter school landscape.
- Demonstrated ability to lead an organization with experience in overseeing operational functions and a team of employees.
- Proven track record of successful financial management.
- Exceptional communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse groups of people.
- Ability to think strategically and implement plans effectively.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to the school’s mission and values.
