Insurance Billing Specialist
REPORTS TO
Billing Coordinator

None
RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Responsible for Client Accounts, maintains initial and ongoing supportive and positive linkage between client, insurance company and agency by providing enthusiastic customer service.
B. Must know and be able to explain NWRII regulations, office hours, account billing information, releases of information and other information as necessary.
C. Must have clear understanding of medical insurance benefits and billing for correcting, completing, and processing claims for all payer codes. Responsible for data entry in the Electronic Health Records
D. Analyze and interpret that claims are accurately sent to insurance companies. (Clean Claims)
E. Perform follow up with Medicare, Medicaid, Medicaid Managed Care, and Commercial insurance companies on unpaid insurance accounts identified through aging reports.
F. Assist Billing Coordinator in reconciling deposit and patient collections. attend provider meetings/ workshops when needed.
G. Communicate when needed with payors, providers and other staff via phone calls and written communications.
H. Maintain patient confidentiality and protect medical office operations by keeping patient information confidential.
I. Promote effective working relations as part of a team to facilitate the department’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
J. Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to insure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
K. Other duties as assigned by the Billing Coordinator, Financial Director and NWRII Administrators.
REQUIREMENTS
A. A high school diploma or equivalent required. An associate degree preferred. Certified Biller and Coder is strongly preferred; one year of college or equivalent experience in business administration or bookkeeping is desirable.
B. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instruction furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
C. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general health and social services guidelines, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patients, NWRII staff, payors and the public.
D. Applicants shall always conduct themselves ethically and professionally, adhering to the agency Code of Ethics.
E. Knowledge of substance use disorder/chemical dependency and its effects on individuals, families, and communities is required. Applicants must be of the conviction that substance use disorder/chemical dependency is a treatable illness and constitutes a public health problem. Applicants are expected to subscribe to the philosophy of total abstinence for recovered and recovering alcoholics or addicts. Applicants shall have no history or evidence of alcohol or other drug misuse for a period of two years immediately prior to the date of employment and while employed.
F. Applicants shall understand and adhere to state and federal confidentiality regulations. Applicants must sign an oath of permanent confidentiality covering all patient-related information.
G. Information sharing - gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instructions and reporting results. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice, and training staff.
