Position Summary:
Boise National Forest North Zone Silviculture is recruiting two, 480 Hour AmeriCorps members beginning in June 2025. Work would include assisting our US Forest Service Silviculture Foresters and Technicians with timber stand improvement, timber sale, and reforestation related activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties may include collecting data via forest stand surveys, various project unit recon and layout, contract inspection for planting/non-commercial thinning/stand exam, and assisting with cone collection efforts.
Specific activities include:
- Non-commercial thinning/Planting unit recon and layout (33%)
- Inspection of contractor work on Non-commercial thinning/Planting/Stand Exam project (33%)
- Collection of forest measurement data in preparation of timber sale prescriptions (33%)

Required Qualifications:
- Ages 18-30 (up to 35 for veterans)
- U.S. Citizen or lawful, permanent resident
- Must pass a background/driver check
- Must have a high school diploma or GED
- Driver's License
Desired Qualifications:
- Plant identification experience (will train for local species)
- Physical ability to navigate rugged terrain on foot
- Personal transportation
Duty Location:
Duties are performed within the Emmett and Cascade Ranger Districts, Boise National Forest.
Terms of Employment:
One AmeriCorps member will complete a term of service (length dependent on commitment of hours), starting June 2025 through August/September 2025. The member must complete a minimum of 640 service hours by the end of their term. The member will receive a 30-minute lunch each day and this lunch break does not count towards AmeriCorps member service hours. Training will not exceed 20% of total member service hours.
Program Benefits:
$7,680 living allowance dispersed on a monthly basis and upon successful completion of program requirements, education award amount of $1,956.35. The position will also include a $194.12 gear reimbursement fund. Housing may be provided.
The living allowance and education award are taxable. Members are responsible for providing their own food. Service eligibility is contingent upon the results of a criminal and driving background check.
