Description

Part-time Teller

Northwestern Bank is currently accepting applications for a part-time Teller for our River Prairie Branch.

This position will be regularly scheduled to work approximately 15-20 hours per week Monday through Friday and 2 Saturdays (8:45 am - 11:00 am) per month. Additional hours would be asked to help cover branch employee vacations and other absences, when needed.

This position is responsible for serving our customers in a friendly, accurate, and efficient manner, while balancing on a daily basis. A complete job description can be found below. Position Summary:   

Serves the transaction processing needs of Bank customers in a friendly, efficient, professional and accurate manner.  Maintains and balances a cash drawer on a daily basis. 

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs all or some of the following:

1.        Serves customers with their accounts at teller windows and/or drive up windows by completing a variety of transactions according to Bank policy and procedure.  Accepts and processes deposits, withdrawals, transfers monies, cashes checks and bonds, fills coin/currency orders.  Accepts loan payments, and utility payments. Process the purchase of money orders gift cards and cashier checks.  Buys and sells Canadian currency.  Processes cash advances.  Enters transaction information into computer and prints receipts for customer giving cash back when appropriate.  Transactions may be completed over the telephone.
2.        Opens, processes and records night deposits. Processes mail transactions, telephone transfers and credit card advances.  Cash in savings bonds. 
3.        Performs other customer services such as helping customers with check orders, updating customer addresses and account records by completing change of address forms, assisting customers with telephone transfers and inquiries.  May open or close savings, checking and CD accounts at Branches, or assist in gathering the needed information for this process. 
4.        Balances cash drawer according to accepted procedure.  Notifies supervisor if there are problems or concerns.  Counts cash and runs coin counter as needed, maintains adequate supply of cash on hand.  May need to strap cash, roll coin, and sort out mutilated money. Tellers are expected to have no or only minimal variations in cash drawer.
5.        Professionally promotes and sells additional Bank services.  Recognizes additional customer needs and refers to appropriate department for assistance. 
6.        May be required to order gift cards and related supplies, check-in and verify receipt of gift card orders, balances cards received/sold to G/L daily, pays for cards purchased, and keeps records.
7.         May be responsible for balancing vault cash and coin machine according to established procedures.  May be responsible for balancing money order machine at end of day.
 8.        May be responsible for maintaining and balancing ATM machine.
 9.        Performs opening and closing duties according to established schedule and procedures.
10.       Knows and strictly follows all security and internal control procedures.  Notifies supervisor immediately of any suspicious activity or questionable transactions.
11.       May have responsibility for location security duties including enabling security system and opening and closing vaults.
12.       May assist customers with safe deposit box requests.  Opens and closes safe deposit box accounts, processes payments and other billing activities, etc.
13.       Timely completion of required online training courses
14.       May need to assist or serve as back-up for the Senior Teller, which may include determining how much money to buy and sell from/to vendor and preparing money for pickup from the vendor.
15.       May be required to balance and OFAC cashier checks
16.       May need to request or order supplies from Main Bank or other vendors
17.       May need to occasionally test alarms on vault, night deposit, and hand-held devices
18.       May need to clean coin and currency counters and image scanners
 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

1.         May perform general office duties including answering/transferring phone calls, preparing incoming/outgoing mail, making copies, requesting maintenance service, etc.
2.         May need to perform light janitorial duties including, dusting, vacuuming,
            wet mopping, and light shoveling.
3.         Attends teller and other staff and training meetings as required.
4.         May operate Image Formula scanner to image branch work
5.         May be asked to serve as a Notary Public and notarize official government documents
6.         May need to gather information from customers for new account opening
7.         Other duties as may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.
 

Work Relationships and Scope:

Works closely and reports to either the Teller Supervisor and/or Branch Teller Lead. Due to nature of position, will interact on a regular basis with most other employees at the Bank particularly Deposit Servicing Department, Customer Service, and Loan Department employees.  Will have nearly continuous contact with customers on a daily basis.  Tellers work regularly with highly confidential and sensitive customer information.

Qualifications


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:  

Must have earned or be in the pursuit of a high school diploma or equivalent program.  Previous customer service related experience preferred.  Must possess: friendly, courteous and professional customer service attitude; basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide, fractions, percents, decimals); technical ability to input and retrieve computerized information; excellent verbal communication skills for interacting professionally with customers (in both pleasant and difficult situations) and relating to other employees; ability to maintain the integrity of highly confidential customer and Bank information; legible handwriting; ability to deal effectively with time pressures and stress that can change hourly depending on level of customer activity; ability to carry coin (weighing up to approximately 50 lbs.) and stand for prolonged periods (up to all day).  May need to bend, stoop, and lift to move office materials, retrieve files, and do light janitorial duties.

 

Equipment Operated:

Teller machine, adding machine, on-line computer system, computer printers, encoding machine, check protector, image scanner, money order machine, cash advance machine, currency and coin counters, fax, copier, telephone, drive up communication system, typewriter, paper shredder, and coin wrapper.  May use Dyna cash recycler.

 

Working Conditions:   

Work is performed largely in a pleasant office environment with minimal chance for personal injury.  Regular mental and visual concentration for computer usage required.  Frequent repetitive work.  Prolonged standing is required (up to seven hours a day).  Some walking to filing areas, phone, loan department, etc. required.   May carry coin (weighing up to 50 lbs.) to vault area.  Work is performed generally during regular business hours.  Will rotate early morning, evening and Saturday morning shifts with other employees.
