Student - America Reads and Counts Tutor (Bloomington Public Schools)
Hours : Approximately 2-4 hours per week (October 2024 - April 2025)
Days : Monday - Thursdays, 3 : 20p.m. - 4 : 15p.m. and 4 : 00p.m. - 6 : 00p.m.
Duties
America Reads and Counts is a program where Northwestern Health Sciences college students tutor Bloomington Public School students in subjects such as math and reading. There are options to tutor during the day in a classroom, after school at elementary buildings, or early evening at Bloomington public libraries. Volunteering is in-person. Study Buddies Early Evening Homework Help
- Assist individual or small groups of students in grades K-12 with reading, math, and other homework assignments.
- Volunteers commit to meeting weekly for 2-4 hours October - April.
- Penn Lake Library in Bloomington : Tues. 4 : 00-6 : 00 pm.
- Oxboro Library in Bloomington : Wed. 4 : 00-6 : 00 pm.
- Tutoring for K-12 math, reading, and classroom support.
- During the school day. Schedule and grade-level depends on teacher requests and your preferences. We may not have many in-classroom options available.
- Act as a role model for students, demonstrating attitudes of dependability, politeness, a willingness to learn, and help make learning fun.
- Volunteers who are over 18 must pass a background check.
- Volunteers must follow through on a committed time schedule. If there are two or more absences (excused and not excused) the staff member has the ability to decide if they want the volunteer to continue coming in.
- Be positive and encouraging to the younger students.
- Must have a work-study funds available.
- Acceptable background check completed via Bloomington school district.
- Complete a 30-60 minute virtual training.
Study Buddies After School Homework Help
Assist individual or small groups of 3-5th graders with their homework after school at a Bloomington Elementary school.
Schedule options : Mon. & Wed. or Tues. & Thurs. 3 : 20-4 : 15 pm (1-4 hrs. per week, October - April).
