Overview

Northwood Technical College is seeking applications from qualified candidates for a full-time Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Instructor/Program Director at our New Richmond Campus.

 

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Instructor/Program Director serves as the Program Director of a new Medical Laboratory Technician Program.  The program is currently seeking accreditation by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS).  The program director will be responsible for the organization, administration, evaluation, continuous quality improvement, curriculum planning, and general effectiveness of the program.  The Dean and Associate Dean of Health Sciences will provide supervision & support of the Program Director position and MLT program. This position includes direct instruction to students as well as continuing Program Director responsibilities, including tasks related to new/continuing accreditation. Northwood Tech Instructors teach in a disciplined area in which they have specific training and competence. Instructors are expected to foster learner success, assess learner achievement, and continually improve learning opportunities. Instructors teach in a variety of learning environments including face-to-face, online, web-conferencing, and hybrid classrooms. Instructors are expected to continually improve the overall quality and delivery of learning, including the support of students, programs, and collegewide initiatives.

  • Develop and regularly revise curriculum that includes Employability Essentials and technical content to meet industry and/or regulatory standards.
  • Plan for instruction, including syllabi development, learning plans, and assessment strategies.
  • Deliver, assess, and adapt effective instruction that meets the diverse needs of students.
  • Apply a variety of instructional strategies, create learning plans, facilitate learning, and revise teaching practice.
  • Promote a culture of continuing student success, implement strategies to promote learner persistence and meet the needs of multi-generational learners, demonstrate learner-centered communication, and utilize available student support services.
  • Create performance-based assessment plans, employ a variety of formative and summative assessment strategies, communicate assessment results in a timely fashion to promote student learning, and use assessment results to improve instruction.
  • Demonstrate professional behaviors to support teaching and learning and utilize varied strategies for managing the learning environment.
  • Identify exit learning outcomes and external standards, develop competencies that describe intended learning outcomes, create performance-based plans and assessment tasks for each course, develop learning objectives and plans, prepare syllabi, and utilize a quality review process to validate curriculum.
  • Utilize a variety of data analysis tools, analyze data from teaching and learning experiences, and use data to inform decision making about the teaching and learning process.
  • Assess effectiveness in embracing individualized and program-related learning goals, examine the impact of college, community, and student demographics on teaching and learning, and create an inclusive, effective learning environment that addresses barriers to learning and provides reasonable accommodations.
  • Develop, support, document and maintain lab safety protocol and safety training.
  • Coordinate, supervise and maintain student clinical placements and/or applied learning opportunities.
  • Model the Employability Essentials expected of Northwood Tech students, which are to communicate clearly, think critically, and demonstrate professionalism, and practice inclusivity.
  • Collaborate with student services in the selection, admission, and enrollment of students. Coordinate MLT program orientation for students.
  • In collaboration with the dean, health sciences, manage and administer the MLT program, including program planning; serve as lead for program coordination and strategic planning, develop and implement program evaluation processes and strategies, obtain, and maintain NAACLS accreditation.
  • Collaborate with dean, health sciences to schedule courses, plan and manage program budget, including supplies, equipment, resources for the MLT program.
  • Assume leadership role in assessing instructional effectiveness of the MLT program.
  • Serve as a lead faculty member for marketing and promoting the MLT program.
  • Advise program students.
  • Plan and participate in Advisory Committee Meetings.
  • Attend Wisconsin Technical College System, State, National and/or Accrediting body meetings/conferences, as budget allows.
  • Engage in 36 hours of documented continuing professional education over three years.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Degree & Experience Required:

  • Master’s degree
  • ASCP-BOC generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist
  • Three years of teaching experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of education methods and administration as well as current NAACLS accreditation procedures and certification procedures
  • Minimum of two years (4,000 hours) occupational experience in the medical laboratory field of which at least one year (2,000 hours) shall be within 5 years of appointment

Preferred:

  • Experience using alternative instructional modes (e.g., online, web conferencing, and hybrid)

FY25 Salary - Faculty Grade C - $67,872 / year
