What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director of Student & Recent Alumni Engagement - Norwich University position at Norwich University?
Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by planning and executing strategies that engage students, recent alumni, and NU Club with the goal to increase constituent, participation, and philanthropic investment; expanding volunteer advocacy and support for key campus priorities; and fostering lasting connections between alumni, students, the University, and the Alumni Association.
This is a 40 hour per week and 52 weeks per year 1.0 FTE position.
Salary: $47,600/year or more depending on experience.
This is a hybrid position requiring a minimum of two days in the office each week.
Essential Functions
- Develops, implements, and evaluates programs to engage students and inspire a lifelong commitment to Norwich University.
- Recruits and advises Senior Class Gift Committee: sets fundraising goals, plans events, and educates volunteers on how stay connected to NU.
- Executes on-campus events to elevate the culture of philanthropy at NU such as December Graduates Dinner; 100's Day; TAG Day; Senior Dinner.
- Creates, manages, and executes an engagement plan for recent alumni that encourages and fosters their life-long relationship Norwich University through events, volunteerism, and programs.
- Plans, promotes, budgets, and evaluates in-person, virtual social activities, service events and networking/professional development opportunities for approximately 15-20 NU Clubs across the U.S.
- Collaborates with colleagues in Development and Admissions to leverage NU Club and regional events to support institutional priorities in advancement and recruitment.
- Partners with volunteers to provide vision, leadership, and structure, to expand NU Club programming that strengthens ties to Norwich.
- Identifies volunteers to support and lead NU Club activities, recognizes exceptional and/or departing volunteers for their service, and creates succession plans.
- Supports the Norwich University Alumni Association (NUAA), as applicable
- Assists with Homecoming, Family Weekend, and other alumni events.

- Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required
- Experience in event planning and volunteer management preferred
- Ability to work independently and be accountable for meeting goals and timelines
- Effective writing skills including experience with newsletters, email marketing and personal correspondence
- Capable collaborator and communicator, able to partner with colleagues and volunteers to advance Alumni programs and raise the bar on the caliber of activities
- Customer service oriented, always modeling professional and positive behavior
- Able to handle multiple priorities, establishing priorities, and making decisions
- Excellent organizational skills
- Exercises good judgment and discretion with people and situations, and be able to problem solve with confidence
- Exemplifies Norwich University's guiding values of respect, integrity and accountability
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook). Willingness to learn specialized administrative software such as Raisers Edge, BlackBaud NetCommunity, OneCause and GiveCampus.
- Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 25 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus
- Work some evening or weekend hours
- Travel as needed (public or private transportation)
