Notre Dame Academy, Hingham, Massachusetts--an all-female college preparatory middle and high school educating students in grades 7-12--is seeking a full-time 7-12 Music Teacher with high energy, a creative and collaborative spirit, and a passion for empowering young women. Notre Dame Academy is a vibrant, Catholic learning community, sponsored by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. The Academy guides young women in their personal faith formation, challenges students to pursue academic excellence, and encourages social responsibility on behalf of global justice.
Under the supervision of the Principal, this position involves teaching Music Appreciation classes, Concert Band, Chamber String, Jazz Ensemble, and beginning (to advanced) instrumental ensembles, as well as piano accompaniment at school events and activities.
Components of Responsibilities
•Teach music appreciation for all middle school students.
•Direct the All-School Instrumental Ensembles and assist with direction and instruction of choir ensembles.
•Ability to teach intermediate to advanced piano classes.
•Ability to serve as an accompanist on the piano for concerts, liturgies, and theater productions including the annual spring musical.
•Apply a large knowledge of a wide range of instrumental repertoire and technique that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
•Ability to instruct students in a range of instruments including strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion, and piano.
•Ability to provide choral instruction to students in collaboration with the choral music director.
•Training individual students in preparation for Eastern District and All State festivals.
•Organize instrumental performances and concerts on and off campus.
•Create and maintain a curriculum for instrumental ensembles and classes based on MA music education standards.
•Ability and desire to work collaboratively in a team environment with the Visual & Performing Arts Department chair as well as the choral, theater, and visual arts faculty.
•Desire to grow the instrumental and choral musical programs alongside the Visual & Performing Arts faculty and school leadership as part of a strategic initiative to develop the arts programs.
•A growth mindset and willingness to learn new skills and develop community relationships to develop the musical programs, curriculum, and offerings at Notre Dame Academy.
Job Requirements
•Master’s degree in music education.
•5 years of successful experience as an orchestra/band director.
•Experience with musical accompaniment on piano for concerts, liturgies and musical performances preferred.
