Job Summary:

An established industry leader in the construction sector is seeking a Safety Manager to oversee and enhance safety programs across its California operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety programs that foster a proactive safety culture, minimize workplace risks, and ensure compliance with MSHA, OSHA, and DOT regulations.

The Safety Manager will focus on hazard identification, compliance monitoring, training, and incident prevention, working collaboratively with various teams to drive continuous safety improvements.



Key Responsibilities:1. Safety Leadership & Compliance
  • Promote a safety-first culture by leading and supporting corporate and local safety initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with MSHA, OSHA, DOT, and EPA regulations by monitoring inspections and addressing safety concerns.
  • Lead incident investigations, conduct root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Collaborate with Risk Management and HR to handle workers’ compensation claims and insurance-related matters.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes and represent the company in industry committees and working groups.
2. Risk Management & Prevention
  • Conduct workplace hazard assessments and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and oversee accident-prevention programs, safety audits, and compliance evaluations.
  • Analyze safety performance data to identify areas for improvement and industry benchmarks.
  • Provide on-site field safety support, ensuring proper equipment operation and material handling.
3. Training & Employee Engagement
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels.
  • Foster a People-First Culture by promoting employee engagement and well-being.
  • Act as a mentor to safety team members, providing leadership and professional development opportunities.
4. Emergency Preparedness & Operational Support
  • Oversee emergency response plans and conduct employee preparedness training.
  • Collaborate with operations leaders to align safety initiatives with business objectives.
  • Travel regularly to company locations across California to provide hands-on safety support.



Qualifications & Requirements:Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Construction Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field OR relevant safety certifications (CHST, OHST, STS). Equivalent industry experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of five years of experience ensuring safety compliance in industrial or construction environments.
  • Strong knowledge of MSHA, OSHA, DOT, and FMCSA regulations.
  • Experience with Safety Management Systems (SMS) and Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and coaching skills to influence safety culture at all levels.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and capable of managing multiple projects independently.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and ability to travel, including overnight stays.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced safety certifications (CSP, SMP, ASP).
  • 10 years of experience in health and safety, including at least five years in a leadership role.
  • Experience leading incident investigations and root cause analyses (preferably using ICAM methodology).
  • Strong knowledge of insurance and financial aspects of workplace safety, including workers’ compensation and loss control measures.
  • Certified trainer with experience developing and delivering safety training programs.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish to communicate effectively with a diverse workforce.

  • Expertise in safety regulations (MSHA, OSHA, DOT) and compliance audits.
  • Strong knowledge of construction safety practices and industry-specific training.
  • Excellent problem-solving and crisis management skills.
  • Ability to analyze safety data and implement performance improvements.
  • Highly organized, adaptable, and capable of working both independently and collaboratively.



Physical Demands:
  • Ability to travel extensively, including overnight stays.
  • Must be able to perform job duties in varied environments, including construction sites and manufacturing facilities.
  • Occasionally required to lift and carry equipment or materials as needed.
