Machine Operator Specialist - Carving

Novo Building Products is an industry-leading manufacturer and distributor of stair parts, mouldings, doors, and specialty millwork, along with a variety of board products. Based in Zeeland, Michigan, Novo Building Products operates Ornamental Decorative Millwork, L.J. Smith Stair Systems, and Novo Direct.

Ornamental is looking for motivated, active and experienced Machine Operator Specialist in our Carving Dept. Machine and assemble wooden components and wooden assemblies from lumber to carton.  May be assigned to other work centers in plant as needed.

Shift: 1st, 6am - 4:30pm M-Th

Pay: $19/hr.

This role has the following responsibilities:

• Setup table saw, pin router, shaper, bandsaws, cutoff saws, boring machines, sanders, etc. unassisted.
• Safely operate above listed machines unassisted.
• Fit, glue, assemble parts as required per shop orders.
• Follow specific directions defined on route sheets and/or details.
• Maintain the highest production and quality.
• Read calipers and ruler to decimals if necessary.
• Maintain good housekeeping in the area.

Basic Qualifications:

• Effectively performs all essential functions, including physical requirements.
• Use of proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and company approved tools while remaining aware of hazards. and maintaining a safe work environment Ability to move awkward product lengths and weights.
• Demonstrates basic math, interpersonal, and reasoning skills.
• Ability to read, understand and carry out written procedures and standard work instructions.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Flexibility in scheduling – able to work overtime as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience in distribution or manufacturing environment.
• 2-5 years of prior experience operating wood-working equipment with little supervision in construction, furniture, cabinets, or other similar environment.
• High School Diploma and GED

Physical Requirements:

• Able to withstand exposure to seasonal weather elements and wood dust.
• 100%: Stand, handle or feel, squeeze or grasp.
• 80%: Reaching with hands and arms, depth perception.
• 50%: Walk, repetitive motion, operate moving equipment.
• 10%: Working bent at waist, climbing, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, bending or twisting.
• Lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
