Safety Intern
We are currently seeking Safety Interns to join our Summer Internship Program. This role involves project-level, scope-driven support functions with daily and weekly standard works for the assigned span of support. We are seeking candidates who demonstrate a high level of passion, commitment, and dedication to the health and well-being of others. The ideal candidate for this position will be in their third or fourth year of an Occupational Safety & Health program from an accredited educational institution.
Key Responsibilities
Through the summer internship program, participants will:
- Expand knowledge about construction craft activities and requirements be engaging in craft-based tasks.
- Part of the internship process includes spending 25% of the work week for the first 2-4 weeks on site working with different crafts/crews to gain a better understanding of the work scopes, requirements, and challenges.
- Participate in HSE programs and initiatives as opportunities allow.
- Attend daily Power Up and Power Down meetings, contributing as the opportunities allow.
- Support and conduct jobsite inspections to identify and initiate corrective actions and document observed safe and unsafe work practices or conditions.
- Engage in the Pre-Task Planning process.
- Monitor incident investigation and causal analysis processes.
- Build knowledge and understanding of applicable legislative, client, and Nox policies and procedures applicable to the project.
- Communicate effectively and regularly with Nox personnel, subcontractors, visitors, and vendors.
- Support the needs of the Project HSE Department.
Minimum Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate occupational safety and health program preferred.
- Proficient use of all Microsoft Suite programs.
- Organizational and time management skills.
- Good written and verbal communication (includes use of proper grammar, spelling, etc.).
- Ability to interact with both craft and supervisory employees.
- Ability to objectively audit compliance in the workplace.
- High level of integrity.
- Ability to lift fifty pounds, unassisted, frequently throughout the day.
- Ability to work from various heights via ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and other safe work platforms and area.
- Able to work a 40-hour work week, with overtime and off-hour shifts as required.
- Able to work in extreme weather conditions and elements, indoor or outdoor, including heat, cold, rain, mud, dust, and snow depending on the job location.
Safety Level
This is a safety sensitive position and all applicable policies including drug test and background check will apply.
This internship will provide you with exposure to what its like working in safety on a construction project allowing you to apply your classroom knowledge to real-world situations. You will gain hands-on experience, work with experienced professionals, and contribute to the success of our projects.
