Job description : Participates in the delivery of individualized peri-operative registered nursing care under the supervision and guidance of a licensed physician or a registered professional nurse. Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to assure quality patient care.
- Basic knowledge of instrumentations.
- Establish / Maintain sterile field and assure team maintains sterile environment.
- Demonstrates correct and safe instrumentation passing.
- Participants in surgical counts (sponge, needle and instruments), per policy
- Adheres to Policy and Procedures, all regulatory standards and Patient Safety Goals.
- Participates in the nursing process for patients of all ages served.
- Participates in unit educational activities. Qualifications :
- Education :
- High school graduate or equivalent required. Successfully completed an accredited surgical technologist training program and holds a current credential as a certified surgical technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or its successor. Or, has successfully completed a training program for surgical technology during the person's service as a member of any branch of the armed forces of the United States.
- Experience :
- None required.
- Licensure, certification, and / or registration :
- Certification in Surgical Technology required. LPN licensure required for grandfathered employees. Obtain and / or maintain registration with the VA Dept of Health Professions.
- Life Support :
- Must obtain / maintain AHA BLS-HCP.
- Other Minimum Qualifications :
- Satisfactory completion of structured orientation program.
