The NPR Editorial Training teamis seeking an experienced journalist who gets excited about uncovering information, conducting memorable interviews and telling great stories. The ideal candidate is someone who's skilled at translating their reporting into compelling pieces, articles and conversations across platforms, and who wants to share their expertise with others. We want a lifelong learner who is a teacher at heart and who can find creative ways to break down knowledge and communicate it.
You'll guide journalists of all levels, from early career staff and budding reporters to veteran correspondents and producers. You'll have an opportunity to become a leading voice on best practices in reporting. Through one-on-one coaching and group sessions, your work will reach hundreds of journalists across the country. The expectation is that as much as 40 percent of your work will be aimed at supporting NPR Member stations.
You'll join a creative, enterprising team that thrives on individual expertise and a collaborative spirit. We cover audio and digital journalism, editing, audio production, analytics, career development, mentorship and more. We are dedicated to creating a culture of journalistic excellence through reflection, experimentation and continuous learning.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and execute a reporting curriculum for NPR and Member-station journalists on topics such as interviewing, writing and sourcing.
- Coach NPR journalists one-on-one, providing guidance and feedback, including on vocal delivery
- Design engaging in-person and remote training sessions
- Lead training initiatives at NPR, Member stations and industry conferences
- Create original training material - including guides, presentations, videos and written articles - for distribution inside NPR, with Member stations and external publication
- Foster a culture of continuous learning with techniques such as listening sessions and air checks
- Collaborate with key stakeholders

Salary Range : The U.S. based anticipated salary range for this opportunity is $122,500-130,000 plus benefits. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salaries NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.
Benefits : NPR offers access to comprehensive benefits for employees and dependents. Regular, full-time employees scheduled to work 30 hours or more per week are eligible to enroll in NPR's benefits options. Benefits include access to health and wellness, paid time off, and financial well-being. Plan options include medical, dental, vision, life / accidental death and dismemberment, long-term disability, short-term disability, and voluntary retirement savings to all eligible NPR employees.
