NSM is seeking an experienced and innovative Global Senior Systems Engineer (GSSE) to join our growing IT team. The Global Senior System Engineer (GSSE) is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of NSM systems hardware, software, network, and related infrastructure. The GSSE will participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the overall infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in cloud computing and security, with a focus on Microsoft Azure, Network and Security, and be able to drive the business forward through their technical expertise and leadership skills. A strong preference will be given to candidates with experience in Palo Alto Networks and Desktop Engineering.
The GSSE is responsible for innovation and building the future foundation for NSM and assisting project teams with technical changes. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project lifecycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing, and implementing the solutions.
Responsibilities
Systems Engineering and Provisioning:
- Design and build new / rebuild existing platforms and configure hardware, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
- Design, implement and manage Azure cloud infrastructure, including virtual networks, security groups, storage accounts, and other resources.
- Strong technical oversight of NSM infrastructure within all public and private Cloud platforms. Azure (and AWS) are the primary public Cloud platforms.
- Manage, monitor, and troubleshoot the company's global network infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, routers, and VPNs, experience with Palo Alto Networks is a differentiator.
- Implement and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, VPNs, and security groups with the assistance of other administrators, engineers, and vendor partners.
- Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures for use within the NSM Infrastructure team.
- Contribute to and maintain NSM system standards.
- Research and recommend innovative, and automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage NSM resources and provide economies of scale.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Act as an innovative leader, constantly seeking new and creative solutions to drive the business forward.
- Partner with security to conduct assessments and implement remediation plans as necessary.
- Stay up to date with the latest technologies and trends in the industry and make recommendations for adoption as appropriate.
- Manage and support the company's desktop and server engineering infrastructure, including hardware, software, and security.
Maintenance:
- Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
- Upgrade and configure system software that supports NSM infrastructure applications per project or operational needs.
- Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures in support of the NSM IT Infrastructure.
- Create and maintain documentation in support of NSM platforms.
- Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
- Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
- Maintain data center environmental (on premise), work with Cloud / host providers to ensure data center standards are maintained.
Qualifications
- Bachelor (4-year) degree, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science (not required with commiserate industry experience).
- 8 years of experience as a Systems Engineer, with a focus on Azure, Network, and Security. AWS experience is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of Office 356, and Azure AD in a multi domain environment.
- Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.)
- Experience with cloud-based networking (Azure Virtual Networking, ExpressRoute, etc.)
- Knowledge of security principles and technologies (firewalls, VPNs, network segmentation, etc.)
- Ability to design, implement, and maintain secure network infrastructure in Azure.
- Familiarity with Azure security services (Azure Security Center, Azure DDoS protection, etc.)
- Experience with network performance optimization and troubleshooting.
- Strong knowledge of Windows OS internals. Includes performance tuning, security, process management, systems logging.
- Strong knowledge in support of VOIP /telephony platforms.
- Working knowledge of systems administration of Linux operating environment.
- Working knowledge of OS X and iOS operational environments.
- Advance knowledge in Windows PowerShell and other automation tools.
- Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate.
- Role requires being part of an on-call support rotational schedule.
- Responsibilities require working evenings and weekends to meet the demands of business, sometimes with little advanced notice.
- Limited travel to local or remote NSM office may be required at times in support of projects with advanced notice.
