Overview
Our client, a leading organization in the healthcare industry, is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Scrum Master / Release Train Engineer to lead their agile transformation. This individual will guide multiple cross-functional teams or Agile Release Trains (ARTs) in adopting and effectively implementing Agile, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Scrum, and Lean principles (e.g., Kanban). This is a critical role requiring strong leadership, excellent communication, and a deep understanding of agile methodologies to drive continuous improvement and deliver value to customers.
Responsibilities
• Facilitate Team and ART Progress:
o Serve as a facilitator for multiple teams or as the Release Train Engineer (RTE) for a SAFe ART.
o Continuously challenge existing processes to improve team/ART performance in quality, predictability, flow, velocity, and other defined metrics.
o Guide the team/ART's focus on daily/Iteration Goals within the context of PI/Release Objectives.
o Lead team/ART efforts in relentless improvement through retrospectives and problem-solving techniques.
o Facilitate team/ART meetings (Daily Stand-up, Iteration Planning, Iteration Review, PI Planning, Scrum of Scrums, etc.).
o Ensure adherence to the Definition of Done (DoD) and other team/ART working agreements.
o Facilitate discussions, decision-making, and conflict resolution.
• Improve Team/ART Communication and Collaboration:
o Enhance communication and relationships with other teams to improve flow and throughput.
o Represent the team/ART in Scrum of Scrums and other program-level ceremonies.
o Foster awareness of opportunities to improve overall program effectiveness.
o Help teams build effective relationships with supporting teams (User Experience, Architecture, Shared Services, etc.).
o Support the Product Owner and Product Management in backlog management and priority setting.
• Eliminate Impediments:
o Support the team/ART in addressing and eliminating impediments to achieve Iteration/PI objectives.
o Facilitate internal and external communication and transparency.
• Cultivate a Lean-Agile Mindset:
o Exhibit and promote Lean-Agile Leadership behaviors.
o Nurture a Lean-Agile Mindset within the team, leadership, and program.
o Contribute to and lead initiatives for improving business agility.
o Drive the necessary culture change to enhance agility.
Required Skills & Experience
• Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 8 years of experience in Lean and Agile methodologies.
• 3 years of experience as a Scrum Master or Kanban Lead.
• Certified Scrum Master (CSM)
• Proven success in leading multiple Agile teams towards agile maturity and improved customer outcomes.
• Experience working in the healthcare industry.
• Experience working with data and data-driven initiatives.
• Advanced knowledge of Lean-Agile values, principles, and practices.
• Expert knowledge of Lean-Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban).
• Advanced knowledge of scaling frameworks (SAFe).
• Expert ability to demonstrate accountability for program success.
• Advanced knowledge of Product Ownership, DevOps, and Test Automation practices.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
• Ability to organize data and create metrics/reports/dashboards.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and industry-standard Agile tools.
• Ability to drive change at different levels and manage conflicts constructively.
Preferred Skills & Experience
• SAFe Scrum Master Certification
• Certified SAFe® Release Train Engineer
• Certified Scrum Professional
• Experience as a Scrum Master on a SAFe Agile Release Train.
• Experience leading change and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Experience with value stream mapping, system-level optimization, Theory of Constraints, and other Lean techniques.
