The Field Survey Technician I functions in a technician's capacity, working primarily in the field, to gather data for engineering and design of aerial, underground, and buried fiber optic facilities.  

This position requires frequent local travel around PA, MD, VA and WV, as well as, overnight travel nationwide. Although this position predominantly involves field work, it will also require completion of administrative tasks as required by project leadership. Based on experience, skill level, and project needs, there is a potential for this position to move over into more complex field data collect and/or engineering.

Main Duties and Responsibilities: Perform inspections on man/hand-holes, pedestals, and building entrance terminals, audits, and document findings. Visual pole inspections, looking for and making note of existing violations and potential make-ready for future attachments. Field survey of proposed fiber route, collecting field information necessary to complete pole attachment applications and/or buried installation applications. Aerial and underground make ready surveys, outside plant route selection and verification. Daily accounting of time in a project environment.  .

 General Skills: Training provided for telecommunications outside plant engineering and construction methodology . Ability to work well individually or as a team member in the field, in the office and remote. Knowledge and familiarity with basic telecommunications outside plant plans and drawings a plus. Familiar with typical outside plant survey equipment, tools, and technology such as measuring stick, laser range finder, and GPS a plus.

Experience / Requirements: High School or equivalent education.  Entry Level experience with telecommunications outside plant engineering a plus – not required. Must have reliable transportation and being willing to travel to sites/work remotely. Valid drivers license Lift 50 lbs. unassisted Ability to walk and/or stand for 3-4hours at a time up to 2 twice in a shift. Work indoor and outdoor under variable environmental conditions and terrains.

Other: AutoCAD or other drafting software experience a plus Ability to create detailed and concise reports and tracking tools for all aspects of the project. OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30 (Not Required) CPR/First Aid (Not Required)
