Team Leader - West - IB HT - 1st shift

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Team Leader oversees, monitors, and coordinates production team activities, giving importance to individual members and overall team's achievement of established goals. Ensures teams goal is aligned with and representative of the overall company's directive. Acts as a liaison between team members and the rest of the organization. Must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Typically reports to a manager or supervisor and assumes supervisory duties in their absence. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain time and production records
  • Responsible for the JD Edwards system
  • Read standards
  • Run lines as needed
  • Assist with investigating quality issues (5-Why)
  • Check under machine for things that should not be there (parts or components)
  • Check all emergency stop buttons
  • Check the set-up
  • Assigned work area will be cleaned and kept neat and orderly during every workday
  • Will recognize and comply with all safety rules
  • Will work overtime as requested by supervisor or scheduled
  • Floors swept and mopped (within reason)
  • Machines wiped down (within reason)
  • Ensure machines running at shift change
  • Paperwork completed (to include down time)
  • Any other duties assigned by manager

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND ABILITIES:

  • Previous experience with supervision, set-up or training preferred
  • 2-5 years' experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with gauging instruments
  • Excellent verbal & written communications skills
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of QS9000 standards
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety regulations
  • High School Diploma

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Stamina and Endurance:
  • Ability to work long shifts, often standing for extended periods.
  • Moving between different areas of the production floor, ensuring smooth operations.
  • Manual Dexterity:
  • May need to use hand tools or operate machinery.
  • Ability to handle delicate or complex components carefully.
  • Vision and Attention to Detail:
  • Good vision (with or without corrective lenses) for inspecting products, machinery, and work processes.
  • Detecting defects or inconsistencies in production.
  • Physical Strength and Mobility:
  • Ability to lift or move heavy items (depending on the industry and products being manufactured).
  • Quick and efficient movement to monitor production processes and resolve issues.
  • Safety Awareness and Compliance:
  • Understanding and adhering to safety protocols, ensuring the team uses personal protective equipment (PPE) and follows safe operating procedures.
  • Comfort in Industrial Environments:
  • Will often work in noisy, high-energy environments where they must wear protective gear (e.g., safety glasses, hard hats, gloves, ear protection).
  • Must be comfortable working in hot, cold, or sometimes hazardous environments, depending on the industry (e.g., chemicals, metals, electronics, exposure to dust).

  • Ability to troubleshoot issues quickly, whether related to machinery, workflow, or team dynamics.

  • Strong leadership abilities to motivate, guide, and supervise team members.
  • Clear and effective communication skills to relay instructions, provide feedback, and address concerns.
  • Conflict resolution skills to manage interpersonal issues and ensure a cohesive team environment.

  • Ensuring that products meet quality standards and identifying any areas where quality might be compromised.
  • Maintaining focus on both the big picture and granular details simultaneously.
  • Time Management and Organization:
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects at once, ensuring that deadlines and production quotas are met.
  • Effective delegation and resource allocation to optimize team performance and productivity.
  • Adaptability and Flexibility:
  • Ability to adjust to changes in production schedules, customer orders, or operational procedures.
  • Willingness to learn new processes or technologies and adapt to shifting production demands.
  • Technical Proficiency:
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment, and software used on the production floor.
  • Familiarity with quality control procedures, production metrics, and inventory management.
  • Decision-Making Under Pressure:
  • Ability to make quick, informed decisions when unexpected issues arise, like equipment failure, safety hazards, or production delays.
  • Stress Management:
  • Managing high-pressure situations, particularly when facing tight deadlines, low resource availability, or employee performance issues.
  • Staying calm and focused during fast-paced or difficult circumstances.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement:
    • Familiarity with methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Employee Training and Development:
    • Ability to train and mentor new or less experienced team members, ensuring they meet performance standards.
