Overview
Position Summary:
The Linux System Engineer role supports project work related to the development of a state-of-the-art, industrial particle accelerator system for medical radioisotope production. This position involves the implementation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Linux systems to ensure maximum uptime and optimal performance. The engineer will work closely with development and operations teams to support a stable and efficient infrastructure.
Responsibilities
What You'll Do:
- Develop scripts, automation, templates, containers, system images, and virtual machines to improveavailability of the control system.
- Propose improvements to control system to eliminate points of failure.
- Document processes and procedures into the group knowledgebase.
- Modify and/or debug vendor-supplied software utilities and packages built on the EPICS framework.
- Plan and coordinate the design, procurement, installation, configuration, and maintenance of managedswitches, servers, and networking equipment.
- Provide additional OT infrastructure support and project assistance as required.
- Quickly respond to and resolve issues and outages.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- 3-5 years of experience deploying and maintaining Linux systems in a production environment.
- Experience in the use and configuration of virtual machines (Ex: Xen, Citrix, VMWare).
- Experience deploying and configuring monitoring software for production systems (Ex: Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios).
- Comfortable writing scripts in Bash, Python, or Golang.
- Experience working with an infrastructure automation tool (Ex: Ansible, Chef, Terraform).
- Basic understanding of cyber security best practices.
- Proficiency with version control (Ex: Git, Svn).
- Experience with storage technologies (Ex: TrueNas, Minio).
- Opensource first mentality.
Preferred Requirements:
- College degree or equivalent experience.
- Development experience with EPICS (Experimental Physics Industrial Control System).
- At least 2 years' experience with network operations or implementation.
- Experience with configuration of Cisco and Aruba switches.
- Experience with CICD tools (Ex: Gitlab-CI, Argocd, Argoworkflows, Jenkins).
- Certifications in IT networking or cloud technologies, such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, Net .
- 3 years of experience in leading and managing IT infrastructure teams and projects.
- Expert knowledge of IT network architectures, protocols, standards, and technologies, such as TCP/IP, LAN, WAN, VPN, DHCP, DNS, SNMP, SMTP, FTP, HTTP, SSL, etc.
