The Sr. Accounts Payable Specialist is responsible for processing high-volume, full-cycle Accounts Payable, including check runs, vendor communications, and maintenance of accurate accounts payable records. As needed, the Sr. Accounts Payable Specialist provides general accounting back-up to support other department needs.
Responsibilities
- Organizes, codes and processes company invoices following established procedures
- Ensures invoices have proper back-up and approval for payment
- Inputs invoices into Great Plains (GP) accounting system
- Prepares batches and reviews them for accuracy (document date, GL code, vendor ID, vendor address, and amount)
- Prepares checks to be mailed and/or otherwise distributed
- Audits work to ensure there are no duplicate payments, late payments, miscoded invoices, and over-payments
- Checks and verifies vendor information for accuracy
- Communicates with vendors about past due payments, account inquiries, missing invoices, etc.
- Researches and resolves issues associated with outstanding and lost checks
- Assists with vendor and payment analysis; creates and generates reports as needed
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including support for other departments based on volume, projects and company work priorities
- Receives, researches and resolves a variety of routine internal and external inquiries concerning account status, including communicating the resolution of discrepancies to appropriate persons.

- Strong prioritization and multi-tasking skills, staying effective under accelerated deadlines
- Must be flexible and able to adjust schedule to various demands driven by dynamic business environment; fast learner
- Good understanding of the GL, bookkeeping, and accounting payable principles
- Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, with intermediate Excel experience
Qualifications
- Associate Degree or college-level coursework in Accounting, Business or related field with a minimum 2-3 years' related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Prior healthcare experience is a bonus
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Experience with accounting software, Great Plains is a plus
- Excellent basic math skills
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and proven experience meeting deadlines
- Demonstrated customer service focus with a positive and respectful work style and professional business demeanor
- Strong written, verbal and listening skills with the ability to make customers feel as though they have been heard and that their input, concerns and suggestions are valued and will be taken seriously
- This position requires the ability to think independently, use professional judgment and initiative to meet deadlines as well as a high degree of analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. This position also requires an individual who is self-motivated and self-directed, yet works well as part of a team.
- The incumbent for this position must provide customer service to each employee and provider in the organization. Day to day contact with Physicians, Senior Management, Directors, Supervisors and Staff is expected.
