Virtualization and Storage Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining an organization's virtual infrastructure, including virtual machines, and storage systems, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and data protection by configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting both virtualization platforms like VMware and storage devices like SANs and NAS, often collaborating with other IT teams to implement and maintain data backup and recovery strategies.

Salary Range: $85,000- $110,000/ Annual

Virtualization and Storage Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining an organization's virtual infrastructure, including virtual machines, and storage systems, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and data protection by configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting both virtualization platforms like VMware and storage devices like SANs and NAS, often collaborating with other IT teams to implement and maintain data backup and recovery strategies.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Virtual Machine Management:
- Creating, configuring, and managing virtual machines on virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V).
- Provisioning virtual machine resources (CPU, memory, storage) based on application requirements.
- Performing VM migration, cloning, and snapshot operations.
- Monitoring VM performance and troubleshooting issues.
- Designing, implementing, and managing storage infrastructure (SAN, NAS, DAS).
- Monitoring storage capacity utilization and proactively managing storage expansion.
- Implementing data protection strategies like snapshots, replication, and backups
- Troubleshooting storage related issues and performance bottlenecks
- Managing backup systems and procedures for virtual machines and data stored on storage devices
- Performing regular backup tests and ensuring data recoverability
- Monitoring the health and performance of virtual infrastructure and storage systems
- Identifying and resolving performance issues proactively
- Applying updates and patches to virtualization and storage software
- Monitor emerging security vulnerabilities and available patches for various software applications.
- Analyze patch information to determine criticality and potential impact on systems.
- Prioritize patches based on risk level and business needs.
- Working with other IT teams to ensure seamless integration with network infrastructure and applications
- Providing technical support to end-users regarding virtual machine access and storage related issues
Minimum Requirements For Virtualization And Storage Systems Administrator
- Must have a minimum of 5 years' experience managing virtual environments and storage systems.
- In-depth knowledge of virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V)
- Expertise in storage area networks (SAN), network attached storage (NAS), and storage protocols
- Deep understanding of storage protocols (iSCSI, FC, NFS)
- Understanding of backup and recovery solutions.
- Expertise in Windows Server administration and Linux (if applicable).
- Architecting and designing the VDI infrastructure, including selecting appropriate virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware Horizon, Microsoft Hyper-V), storage solutions, and network configurations to meet business requirements.
- Performing capacity planning to ensure sufficient resources are allocated for current and future VDI needs.
- Installing, configuring, and deploying VDI components like host servers, virtual machines, and storage arrays.
- Creating and managing master images for virtual desktops, including application packaging and provisioning.
- Experience with system administration tasks like user management, permissions, and patching
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficient in managing patch management tools (e.g., SCCM, WSUS, Qualys)
- Strong understanding of operating systems (Windows, Linux) and network infrastructure
- Familiarity with scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash) for automated patch deployment
- Understanding of common vulnerabilities and exploits
- Awareness of security best practices for patch management
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues related to patch deployment
- Capability to analyze patch impacts and mitigate potential risks
- Clear communication with stakeholders regarding patch updates and potential disruptions
