The New York County District Attorney’s Office (DANY) has openings for Courtroom Technology Specialists in the Information Technology Bureau. In this position, the Courtroom Technology Specialists are responsible for providing a wide range of highly skilled technical audio/visual assistance to Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) in the courtroom and Grand Jury rooms. The ideal candidates must be able to provide customer service to ADAs and Office of Court Administration (OCA) personnel across different levels of technology and settings. A successful candidate should also be able to provide a wide range of hands-on technical assistance in the operation of multimedia, including resolving connectivity issues, and troubleshooting audio/visual equipment throughout DANY.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Provides technical support to ADAs and other staff within DANY and courtroom/Grand Jury room settings.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of all AV technology used in court and Grand Jury to ensure reliable and effective operation.
  • Assist the IT Helpdesk in standard equipment setup including computers, data projectors, and other multimedia equipment.
  • Setup, operate and maintains all video conferencing equipment throughout DANY and Grand Jury rooms, including all Cisco Video Conferencing Kits.
  • Troubleshoots equipment, software, hardware, and networking issues as required both remotely and at physical locations.
  • Coordinate warranty work, maintenance agreements and timely repair of equipment for all vendor contracts covering AV equipment.
  • Diagnoses routine equipment malfunctions and provides users with problem resolution or escalates as necessary.
  • Participates in event setup and break down and remains present to monitor equipment and ensure equipment works properly during the event.
  • Load, unload and move equipment using carts and hand trucks including regular transporting of audio-visual equipment and materials weighing 25 to 50 pounds for troubleshooting, repairs, or other related needs.
  • Maintains equipment, such as laptops, cameras, microphones, audio mixers, speakers, projectors, and presentation systems as appropriate to the area of assignment.
  • Monitors and ensures the availability, circulation, security, and proper maintenance of portable multimedia equipment.
  • Organizes equipment storage area, maintains inventory, assists with equipment check out for staff members, performs annual inventory of all assigned equipment and assembles carts with necessary equipment for use during the day.
  • Maintains presentation remotes and other handheld equipment used in courtrooms and during meetings.
  • Coordinates video equipment storage and security.
  • Remains current on new and emerging technology, methodology, and equipment.
  • Monitor latest technology and recommend, develop, and install system upgrades.
  • Advise management in all areas of AV needs, objectives, and capabilities, including anticipation of future requirements and potential problems.
  • Provides technical support to the Early Case Assessment Bureau (ECAB) Interview setups.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

In addition to the Minimum Qualification Requirements, candidates must possess the following:

  • Level 1 - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in the audio/video/teleconferencing field (e.g., media services, computer applications, multi-media, broadcast production, and live sound mixing) and 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Level 2 - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in the audio/video/teleconferencing field (e.g., media services, computer applications, multi-media, broadcast production, and live sound mixing) and 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Level 3 - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in the audio/video/teleconferencing field (e.g., media services, computer applications, multi-media, broadcast production, and live sound mixing) and 4 years of relevant experience.

*Relevant work experience performing the duties described above may substituted for education. *

Preferred Requirements/Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are essential.
  • Strong computer, audiovisual presentation/recording and problem-solving skills required.
  • Must possess strong knowledge in operating and documenting current audio/video/teleconferencing systems and with associated hardware/software.
  • Advanced knowledge of the design, configuration, administration, and maintenance of AV systems and able to communicate technical information effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Must possess good customer service skills and ability to interact with all levels of staff and personnel.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and prioritize tasks using strong time-management skills.
  • Ability to quickly learn, install and configure a wide variety of software applications.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and multitask in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Due to nature of this position, prolonged standing during events or other related work may be required.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workflow.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to manage multiple assignments.
  • Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Hours/Shift

  • Monday – Friday, from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Some mandatory overtime is required when necessary for court purposes.

Additional Information

  • Current office employees: To be eligible for a transfer or promotion, staff must have already served at least 1 year in their current unit/bureau/department and be in good standing. In addition, must meet the minimum and additional qualifications of the position.
  • Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
