TENNESSEE COMPLEX:
The Tennessee complex consists of three individual assets: East Tennessee complex, Middle Tennessee mines and Clarksville smelter.
The East Tennessee complex consists of a processing plant and three underground zinc mines: Young, Coy and Immel. The three mines are located in and around Tennessee’s Knox and Jefferson Counties, within approximately 20 miles of each other and 150 miles from the Middle Tennessee Mines as well as 250 miles from Nyrstar’s Clarksville smelter. Zinc mineralisation at the mine complex occurs in Mississippi Valley type deposits as open-space fillings of breccias and fractures within limestone and dolomites. Ore from the three mines is processed into zinc concentrate at the Young mine site. The East Tennessee zinc mine complex has a close association with Nyrstar’s Clarksville smelter.
Middle Tennessee is comprised of two underground zinc mines; Gordonsville and Cumberland, and a processing plant located at the Gordonsville mine site. The Middle Tennessee Mines are located within approximately 10 miles of each other in Smith County, Tennessee. The complex is located approximately 100 miles from Nyrstar’s Clarksville smelter. Zinc mineralisation at the mine complex occurs in Mississippi Valley type deposits as open-space fillings of breccias and fractures within limestone and dolomites. Ore mined at the two mines is processed into zinc concentrate at the Gordonsville zinc mine complex. Production at Middle Tennessee is currently on pause.
The Clarksville smelter is a medium scale and relatively modern smelter commissioned in 1978. It was specifically designed to recover zinc from the high zinc content, low impurity Tennessee Valley zinc concentrates produced by the Tennessee mines. The Clarksville zinc refinery is located four kilometers southwest of Clarksville, Tennessee, beside the Cumberland River. The Clarksville smelter is currently the only primary zinc producer in the United States. Leach products include cadmium metal, sulphuric acid, copper sulphate, an intermediate copper cementate, synthetic gypsum and germanium concentrate. PURPOSE:
The Senior Business Analyst is responsible for providing financial and business planning, reporting, and site-focused business analysis support to management. This role places a strong emphasis on leveraging Vena Solutions – our FP&A tool – to facilitate budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and robust data analytics. The Senior Business Analyst will collaborate across departments (finance, accounting, operations) to deliver accurate, insightful financial information that supports strategic decision-making and continuous improvement.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety, Health and Environment:
•Follow and promote Nyrstar’s safety policies, procedures, and best practices.
•Identify and communicate potential hazards, proactively working to prevent injuries and ensure a safe work environment.
•Integrate safety and environmental considerations into day-to-day work, aligning with company standards.
Function/Production:
•Use Vena extensively to manage budgeting, forecasting, strategic planning processes, and overall reporting.
•Develop and maintain financial models to aid in data-driven decision-making.
•Generate month-end and quarter-end financial packages, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
•Collect and analyze business data, KPIs, and financial results using Vena and Excel.Create dashboards and ad-hoc reports in Vena to communicate performance insights clearly to management.
•Work closely with the Accounting team to coordinate period-end close procedures, ensuring that Vena and SAP remain aligned.
•Partner with cross-functional teams to gather inputs, resolve data discrepancies, and enhance reporting accuracy.
•Provide support during half-year reviews and year-end audits, supplying Vena data and documentation as needed.
•Participate in special projects such as system enhancements, process automation, or cost-optimization analysis at the request of site leadership.
•Identify opportunities to further optimize Vena usage, including implementing new features, refining models and reports, and training end-users.
QUALIFICATIONS:
•Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
•Minimum of 3 years of financial analysis and reporting experience required.
•Experience in a mining or manufacturing environment preferred.
•Direct experience with Vena Solutions or a similar FP&A platform strongly preferred.
•Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel required, experience with SAP is a plus.
•Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial modeling.
•Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a track record of leveraging data to make recommendations.
ORGANIZATIONAL FACTORS:
The Senior Business Analyst will report directly to the Finance Manager. This position works closely with site management and cross-functional teams. Additionally, the analyst will collaborate with and support the Vena Owner on projects related to reporting and process improvements.
