Duties Description
The Trades Generalist will be required to provide and accomplish technical and trade specific maintenance, construction, and restoration services for DEC’s infrastructure and facilities. Must have general knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, and electrical trades. Must be able to perform the described job duties/skills according to work orders or verbal instructions by inspecting the work site to determine materials, equipment, tool requirements, and method to be used; developing a plan or lay out for the project or following a blueprint or schematic; assembling, fabricating, or building and installing materials, equipment, or fixtures as required by the scope of work. May be required to operate diverse types of equipment and have good working knowledge of all equipment being operated.
May be required to supervise subordinate staff and provide instructions to staff on project priorities, work schedules, equipment needs and health and safety issues. Must be willing and able to plan and lay out construction, maintenance, and repair projects to be completed by department staff and/or by contract.
Procurement of supplies and materials purchased from vendors under state contract, as well as utilizing preferred sources as required. Obtain quotes for various projects and prepare purchase requisitions while following department guidelines and policies. May be required to administer and manage contracts with outside vendors. Track supplies, materials and equipment to ensure they are used properly. Responsible for performing various administrative duties and accurate and timely submission of schedules, reports and work orders.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in carpentry, electrical, plumbing and mechanical trades.

Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.

Must be available for emergency response.
