Duties Description
Reporting directly to a Training Specialist 2, SG-23, the Training Specialist 1, SG-18 will be responsible for the following duties:
- Record, maintain and update training records in the State Learning Management System (SLMS).
- Make arrangements for training courses, including scheduling space, setting up the training room, running necessary equipment and technology, documenting attendance and generating certificates.
- Prepare and schedule communication regarding training opportunities.
- Use various software programs for developing training announcements, training and training aids, designing and editing videos and developing online training.
- Develop and present specific training courses in the agency’s training program by personally conducting the training or by obtaining outside instructors or programs.
- Develop a training program to meet identified needs by determining course content, method of presentation and space and equipment requirements, and obtaining training materials and resources.
- Design and develop curricula and training materials and present training on a wide variety of topics and programs using targeted training methods, equipment, and media.
- Provide technical assistance in developing and updating training policies, and update training manuals using appropriate resources and with assistance and review by supervisors.
- Provide instruction in more generalized courses, including supervisory and administrative practices, and courses designed to address unique agency needs and requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).

Training Specialist 1: A bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience developing and presenting training programs to improve the on-the-job knowledge, skills, and abilities of employees to enable them to carry out an agency’s mission.

- For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At this time, agencies may recruit and hire employees by making temporary appointments. In May 2024, if a temporary NY HELPS employee is satisfactorily performing in the position, the appointment will be changed from temporary pending Civil Service Commission Action to permanent non-competitive and the official probationary period will begin.

Salary : $65,001 - $82,656
