Primary Function
General machining of routine castings and the building of small fixtures for use in the finishing
department.
Tools And Equipment
Grinders, drill press, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, fixtures and shims, reaming tools, tote pans,
mechanics hand tools etc.
Material
Aluminum, copper, and brass based castings, tapping fluids, lubricants, etc.
Working Procedure
Under the guidance and direction of the department supervisor, the Machinist A, or group leader.
The Machinist B Shall
THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL MAJOR JOB DUTIES BUT THIS JOB DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF
Other Duties By The Incumbent.
Shall adhere to all safety requirements as posted on the job safety card.
Shall consistently follow all applicable work instructions.
Shall receive daily work assignments from the department supervisor or group leader.
Shall setup drill press, milling machines, and/or lathe to machine castings and build fixtures as
required.
Shall work from casting blueprints to machine castings, and verify accuracy of work to customer
specifications through the use of various measuring instruments such as micrometers, caliper,
indicator, etc..
Shall be proficient in the use of various mechanics hand tools, such as a chisels, hammer,
punches, wrenches, files, etc.
Shall move the castings to the next operation per the process sheet.
Shall maintain all labor vouchers, records, and files, in addition to a variety of logs where
accuracy is paramount, and enter all required information into the Company software in a
timely manner.
Shall maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition.
Shall attend and successfully complete hazardous material / waste handling classes.
Shall attend and successfully complete training in the proper techniques of lifting.
Shall attend and successfully complete lock out / tag out training.
Shall perform other duties as assigned.
Work Environment
Shall work in an area where airborne grinding dust is present.
Special Skills Required
Requires a technical school diploma in precision machining technology or one year of machining experience.
Must be proficient in reading and interpreting casting blueprints.
Must have good working knowledge of personal computers and related software.
Must be able to handle the physical demands of the job.
