The Park Technician at the Oak Brook Park District is responsible for a variety of athletic field and landscape maintenance tasks, ensuring high-quality standards across park facilities. This includes maintaining athletic fields (baseball, soccer, and pickleball/tennis), managing turf (mowing, irrigation, fertilizing), and performing landscape upkeep (tree care, planting, and weeding). The role also includes installing park amenities such as playground equipment and signage, as well as snow removal in the winter months. During the peak season from April through October, the position requires weekend availability to assist with tournaments and events.
The Park Technician reports directly to the Superintendent of Parks.
HOURS:
The Park Maintenance Technician is an hourly, full-time position working 40 hours a week. The scheduled hours for this position for November – March are Monday - Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch. The scheduled hours from April – October are Tuesday – Saturday when athletic games and tournaments are scheduled on Saturdays. Hour may be subject to change at the discretion of the Superintendent of Parks. Evening and weekend hours may be required to assist the Park District with special events or other projects as required.
Education, Experience & Training:
- High school graduate.
- Minimum 1 year experience in landscape maintenance with preference given to those with a Park and Recreation background.
- Valid Illinois State Driver's License is required.
- Good physical condition with sufficient strength to lift and hold 50 pounds.
- CPR/AED/First Aid Certification is required within the first year of employment. Training will be provided by the Park District.
- In-depth Confined Space training is required within six months of hire.
