Job summary:
Under the supervision of the head cook, serve as cook to assure proper handling, preparation, and serving of food in the school cafeteria. Tentative start date of August 1, 2025.
Summary of Essential Job Functions:
Production Cook:
- Prepare, cook and store foods to be served in the School Nutrition Program.
- Prepares all food items ( e.g. regular food items, special diets, students with allergies, etc.) for the purpose of meeting projected meal quantities and mandated nutritional and health standards and ensuring appealing presentation.
- Maintain proper sanitary and safety practices.
- Follows menu/production records, standardized recipes, portion control, and maintains appropriate records and reports.
- Food is cooked and held to the required safe internal temperature.
- Wrap, date, and freeze leftover foods after cooling properly.
- Ensure that all food preparation is done in a timely manner as to meet schedules.
Serving/dish room Cook:
- Serves the food in the School Nutrition Program.
- Follows menu/production record and portion control. Ensure that the appropriate items and quantities are served.
- Keep the food line stocked during meal service.
- Monitor and document food temperatures..
- Follow proper procedures for using a commercial dish machine and three compartment sink.
- Follow proper procedures for cleaning, sanitizing, and storage of utensils, equipment, and trays.
All Cook Positions:
- Assist in cleaning and maintaining kitchen facilities.
- Must have knowledge of meal components of the National School Lunch Program.
- Be friendly and courteous to students and faculty.
- Demonstrates regular attendance and punctuality and adheres to dress code policy.
- Cleans the tables, chairs, and floors where students have eaten.
- Attend scheduled functions for in-service training and staff meetings.
- Any other duties which may from time to time be assigned by the Head Cook.
Minimum requirements:
High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Abilities required:
- Must have exhibited the ability to deal courteously with the public and other school employees.
- Demonstrate an interest in and knowledge of the nutrition of children and the objective of the food service program.
- Demonstrate a willingness to improve skills in quantity food preparation through training and experience.
