Requirements
Qualifications:
- Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license or certificate to practice as a OT in this state
- Must posses the ability to make independent decisions, when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
- Must be knowledgeable of medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.
- Must possess the willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
- Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care.
- Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle challenging situations.
- Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing rehab practices.
- Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
Summary
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the provision of specialized occupational therapy services to residents
- Assist in the direction of the Rehab Aide and affiliating students
- Educate residents and family members/caregivers regarding evalutation findings and treatment recomendations
- Develop, implement and modify as needed, appropriate long and short term treatment/intervention programs in conjuction with OTR.
- Develop and instruct residents/family/caregiver/nursing staff in appropriate follow up programs.
- Particiapte in care conferences/discharge planning
- Assist with obtaining and training residents with assistive devices
- Act as a liason between resident/family and interdisciplinary staff
- Work and communicate effectively with other staff, including physicians, nurses, CNAs, PCAs, rehab staff and social workers
- Serve as a resource and mentor to other staff
