Overview
As the Director of Nursing (DON), reporting directly to the Executive Director, you ensure quality nursing care in accordance with State and Local regulations while leading the nursing team to provide a top-notch experience to all residents. This role acts as the Director in the community in the absence of the Executive Director. This role offers an assistant in place as well as a fully staffed facility, full census and longevity employees and management.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the delivery of care to residents to ensure that emotional, physical, psychological and safety needs are met
- Oversee and be responsible for the delivery of quality care and services to our residents in compliance with the regulations
- Administer medications and/or treatments for all residents, adhering to facility policies and procedures
- Manage the caregiver staff
- Hire and train employees
- Ensure all Nursing Staff strictly adheres to all medical and communication logs, policies and procedures
- Act as first responder to resident emergency response system
- Oversee infection control, pharmaceutical, all policies and procedures
- Function as a liaison between the residents, their families, staff and the public
- Assess potential residents for assisted living and memory care regarding the care level and the appropriate placement
- Develop and implement nursing service objectives
- Maintain a safe work environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices
- Maintain annual budget with conjunction of the Executive Director
- Maintain current knowledge of scope of practice for self and staff members, and recognize legal implications when making nursing judgments/decisions
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills
- Requires three (3) years of nursing experience in a senior care community with proven leadership and organizational skills, unencumbered licensed Practical nurse or Registered Nurse required
- Demonstrated compliance with State and Local regulations as well as professional standards and practices
- Possess a general knowledge of laws and restrictions regarding Assisted Living and Memory Care, as well as a solid understanding of opportunities and limits of other levels of care within senior living
- Great communication and interpersonal skills are required, along with the heart and passion to work with older adults, and providing the best care possible
- Proven experience in staffing, leading, developing and retaining a strong Resident Care Team
- Demonstrates excellent observation, assessment and nursing judgment
- Exhibit and promote a high level of customer service, hospitality, curiosity and friendliness towards all residents, visitors, associates and the overall community
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations, to be flexible, to work well with many interruptions and have skill in multi-tasking
- Must have respect for the principles of resident rights and confidentiality
- Proficiency in Internet Explorer, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word applications.
