Overview:
The Research Library and Information Services Group at ORNL is seeking an enthusiastic early-career professional to provide services to ORNL staff that support the preservation and sharing of their scientific and technical communications, with a focus on scholarly publications. This position will directly support ORNL’s compliance with federal directives and standards for scientific and technical information management, including DOE Order 241.1C and the DOE Public Access Policy. The successful applicant will work both independently and as a team member to provide accurate, timely, and considerate support to ORNL staff to improve customer’s experience and increase compliance with ORNL’s processes to review and appropriately release scientific and technical information. They will be trained on ORNL’s specific guidance around the sharing of scientific and technical information and will work under supervision as needed to establish confidence and competence.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Obtain accepted manuscripts for ORNL-author journal articles and supply them to the DOE Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI).
- Work with ORNL’s OSTI liaison to identify and resolve publications that OSTI has hidden from their public database (osti.gov) due to metadata errors or issues with the accepted manuscript.
- Assist the ORNL Releasing Official by reviewing scholarly publications submitted in ORNL’s internal publication review-and-release system, ensuring that metadata and documents submitted for completed publications are accurate and appropriate for OSTI transmission.
- Assist in coordinating ORNL’s copyright transfer agreement (CTA) process for scholarly publications. Provide instructions to authors and prepare agreements for signature by the Library Manager (ORNL’s authorized agent for CTAs). Work with the Legal Directorate to determine when modifications to a CTA are needed. Correspond with publishers and CTA representatives from other labs regarding issues such as CTA modifications and copyright status of ORNL authors.
- Provide user support services for ORNL’s internal publication review-and-release system (RESolution) by monitoring and responding to a user support inbox.
- Provide back-up support for additional author support and reference services provided by the Library, including permission requests for copyrighted materials, providing training on publication review-and-release procedures/systems, and reference desk coverage.
- Proactively connect with staff to increase engagement with review-and-release systems and processes.

Basic Qualifications:
- A MS degree in Information Science or related field, or a BS degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a library or with DOE facilities.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated excellence in time management and ability to efficiently prioritize multiple tasks.
- Ability to adapt to ever changing needs and apply new technologies and workflows.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong customer service focus including interpersonal skills, with ability to communicate effectively with a diverse laboratory population.
- Commitment to taking initiative over projects, showing accountability and ownership for assigned work.
- Must possess the ability and willingness to work effectively as a member of a team, as well as independently.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with public access mandates.
- Previous experience working successfully in the DOE national laboratory complex.
Special Requirements:
HSPD-12 PIV badge: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an HSPD-12 PIV badge.
