What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Examiner Investigator position at Oakland County Michigan?
Responsible for investigating deaths that occur within the jurisdiction of the Oakland County Medical Examiner in order to determine circumstances of death. Prepares detailed reports on investigated cases for review by the Medical Examiner and Administrator. Secures and preserves evidence and specimens relating to investigation and autopsy of assigned case in cooperation with local law enforcement agencies. When assigned to afternoon, midnight or weekend shifts, assumes responsibility for the Medical Examiner Division. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.Employees of this classification are required to be available to respond and conduct off-duty death scene investigations as scheduled by management.

1. Must be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development Test.
2. Have had at least two (2) years of full-time work experience in medical or criminal death investigation, forensic nursing, forensic investigation, forensic technician, funeral director, or professional investigator associated with a law enforcement agency; OR
3. a. Possess the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (ABMDI) Certification.
b. Have had one (1) year of full-time work experience in medical or criminal death investigation, forensic nursing, forensic investigation, forensic technician, funeral director, or professional investigator associated with a law enforcement agency.
4. Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license.
