What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounts Payable Clerk position at Oberlin?
The Accounts Payable Clerk preforms daily accounts payable activities for Oberlin College, ensures timely payments of invoices, requests for payment, expense reports and other obligations and maintains accurate records and control reports.
This is an onsite part-time position for a continuing 12-month Administrative and Professional Staff (A&PS) position. This position reports to the Accounts Payable Manager.
Responsibilities
- Process outgoing payments in compliance with financial policies and procedures
- Perform day to day financial transactions, including verifying, classifying, and recording accounts payable data
- Reconcile the accounts payable ledger to ensure that all bills and payments are accounted for and properly posted.
- Verify and investigate discrepancies, if any, by reconciling vendor accounts and monthly vendor statements
- Facilitate payment of invoices due by sending bill reminders and contacting clients
- Generate reports detailing accounts payables status
- Understand expense accounts and cost centers
- Understands compliance issues around accounts payable processes (W-9, sales tax, etc.)
- Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
- High school diploma
- 3 years of recent working experience with general ledger accounting software (or equivalent combination of education and experience): thorough knowledge of accounting procedures, practice and resources
- Proven working experience as Accounts Payable Clerk
- Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting payable principles
- Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records
- Data entry skills along with a knack for numbers
- Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and proprietary software
- Proficiency in English and in MS Office
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
Desired Qualifications
- Associate’s degree In accounting or a related field
- Working knowledge of Ellucian Banner system or work experience using a mainframe computer system with an integrated finance system.
- Working knowledge of Oberlin College
Compensation
Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes an excellent benefits package. This part time position is eligible for benefits.
