Career Exploration & Development (CED) is seeking to hire a Peer Career Advisor to contribute to efforts aimed at making career development more equitable and inclusive for all Oberlin students, starting in the Spring 2025 semester. Peer Career Advisors will work both independently and collaboratively to guide their peers through their career journeys, provide advice on career-related topics, organize monthly workshops, promote awareness of CED on campus, and assist in creating valuable resources for students. The Peer Career Advisor will report directly to the Associate Director for the Business, Consulting, and Finance Career Community.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one career advising sessions with students on topics including resumes, cover letters, interviewing, networking, and job searching. Training will be provided on resume and cover letter reviews, as well as advising on networking, interviewing, and job search strategies
- Lead or co-facilitate workshops on career exploration and development topics, promoting the integration of career readiness throughout campus
- Support special projects including research, updating online platforms, creating and maintaining digital resources, designing marketing materials, conducting industry analysis, and other tasks as assigned
- Promote awareness of Career Exploration & Development across campus through word of mouth, creating posters and social media content, and presenting to student organizations and academic departments
- Maintain a professional and approachable demeanor while representing Career Exploration and Development by greeting visitors, answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, and addressing inquiries as needed
- Provide front desk coverage when needed
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Excellent research and analytical skills
- Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team
- Strong organizational skills and demonstrated reliability and responsibility
- Proficiency in various technology platforms, including but not limited to Google Suite, Qualtrics, and Microsoft Office, Canva,Digication (ePortfolio), and Handshake highly preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Comfortable with advising peers and presenting information to groups and individuals
- Enrolled as a student for the 2025-2026 academic year
Expectations:
- Participate in orientation training (TBD)
- Participate in DEIA training with CED staff (date, TBD)
- Organize monthly events for students–as needed
- Occasional workshop/event coverage
- Work a maximum of 7 hours per week within the hours of 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday
Compensation
$12/hour
