What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Housing Assistant position at Oberlin?
Summer Housing Assistants (HA) work for the Office of Residence Life full-time over the summer. HAs will work under the day-to-day direct supervision of the Area Coordinators, and indirectly with the Assistant Director of Conference Services and Director of Conference Services. The HA will be involved in serving the housing and facility needs of conference groups, camps, and summer student residents.
Responsibilities
Conference Services Interactions
Conference Services interactions consist of assisting conference groups throughout their conference stay. The position primarily works in teams with a few solo work opportunities:
- Primary physical duties:
- Distribute and collect linens for overnight stays
- Perform check-ins and check-outs via StarRez (online conference platform) for conference guests
- Prepare residence halls for summer conferences
- Bed lowering
- Submitting work orders
- Pickup used linens (Bedding, pillows, towels)
- Secondary duties:
- Prepare residence halls for the academic year
- Participate in the locking and unlocking of college facilities
- Preparing & processing keycard labeling, distribution, and pickup
- Setup classrooms for conference group usage (Including but not limited to venue set up, tech usage, etc)
- Staffing of SCO and Cat and the Cream during conference rental times Other duties as assigned
Summer Resident Interactions
- Assisting with the planning and execution of events for summer residents
- Serve in the on-call rotation for summer resident lock-outs and emergencies
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Compensation
- Compensation is $15.50 per hour.
- Room is provided from May 26 through August 15 Live-in status is required.
- A meal plan is provided when the dining hall is open.
Special Instructions to Applicants
- The period of employment is May 26 through August 15.
- Training will be scheduled May 27th-28th.
- The work week will vary from 30-39 hours per week.
- Work hours are determined by weekly needs. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM –12:00 PM and 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM. Flexibility in hours may be available/required to accommodate weekend shifts.
- No other on-campus jobs can be held concurrently with this position between June 1- August 7.
- Mandatory staff meetings are scheduled for 9:00 am (Monday through Friday).
