CO-OP MECHANICAL ENGINEER
The Mechanical Engineering Co-op will be provided basic mechanical information to review and develop a better understanding of the facility. The Co-op will then be guided in the development of their technical knowledge of mechanical engineering processes to learn how to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical related issues in a timely fashion for safe, stable, and optimized plant performance. The Co-op will work with the mechanical engineering staff to aid where needed based on both their interest and areas of need. The Co-op is expected to have a strong work ethic and work with the oversight from supervision. The person in this role should conduct themselves professionally as they interact with all site personnel. Communication in this role is key to make the most of the student engineer’s experience.
Your Scope of Responsibility
- Review and begin to learn basic mechanical information about the Methanol and Ammonia manufacturing facilities.
- Begin troubleshooting problems alongside the mechanical engineering staff within the Methanol and Ammonia manufacturing facilities.
- Serve as a member of cross-functional team to resolve equipment problems, investigate incidents and improve reliability.
- Provide technical and field support to Operations and Maintenance departments for mechanical equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, or computer-generated reports.
- Learn about the importance of plant safety and participate in plant safety initiatives.
- Work on small projects as assigned by engineering supervision to help solve common operating issues.
- Establish communications within the engineering and operations group.
- Present a professional image.
- Perform functions and duties in a manner that protects personal safety as well as the safety of all personnel on site.
- Follow all relevant company policies and procedures.
What you bring to OCI
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR TRAINING
- High School Diploma
- MUST be in junior or senior year of a Degree in Mechanical Engineering required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
- Production and Processing — Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Complex Problem Solving — identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
- Critical Thinking — using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Judgment and Decision Making — Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS
- Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook required.
PHYSICAL
- Ability to lift 20 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to sit for prolonged amounts of time required.
- Ability to effectively communicate through various means required.
ENVIRONMENTAL
- Work is performed within an office environment, including office equipment — such as computers, telephones and copiers.
- Work is performed in the “field”, requiring proper safety equipment.
- Requires passing by industrial equipment on the way to office.
- Noise levels are typically moderate.
