Job Summary:

OCO's Head Start program is seeking an Early Childhood Support Coach to provide direct, in classroom, support for children and staff to foster a welcoming learning environment and support student success.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works collaboratively with children, families, and all staff to support positive interactions and a classroom environment that promotes each child’s cognitive, social, and emotional growth.
  • Identifies and implements trauma responsive strategies and provides coaching to teachers for improving teacher-child interaction and fostering secure attachments.
  • Designs and facilitates training for staff and/or families to build awareness and teach appropriate practices related to child mental health, social and emotional wellbeing, sensory processing differences, and child development.
  • Conducts classroom observations and collects data on children’s behaviors and the environments where the behaviors occur to inform the on-going development and implementation of Individual Support Plans and/or makes appropriate referrals to outside community agencies as needed.
  • Regularly reviews data with teachers and supports the capacity building of teachers to analyze data to inform and improve outcomes for students.
  • Assists in classrooms supporting all children’s needs, modeling interventions and testing strategies.
  • Establishes community partnerships with mental and behavioral health agencies to facilitate family and staff access to additional resources and services, as needed.
  • Stays abreast of current research and best practices.
  • Participates in meetings with families regarding the Individual Support Plan. 
  • Provides information, resources, and support to families in implementing strategies at home.
  • Mentors’ new education staff.
  • Accurately completes required program documentation and record keeping including tracking referrals for social/emotional and mental health services in the programs’ database system; ensures mental health and social emotional services documentation is inputted and updated in the database at predictable intervals in alignment with program needs.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, to ensure program quality and effectiveness.
  • Carries out responsibilities according to Federal and State regulations as well as Agency Policies and Procedures.

     Job Requirements:

    • Strong, effective written and verbal communication skills, ability to communicate complex ideas simply and succinctly.
    • Skilled in modeling/coaching appropriate and effective support strategies.
    • Ability to establish supportive relationships with staff and families from diverse backgrounds.
    • Ability to read, analyze and use data for planning.
    • Ability to work within a team environment as a cooperative and supportive team member.
    • Must have knowledge of public services and resources.
    • Must become familiar with the Performance Standards of Head Start, Child Outcomes Framework, and OCFS Regulations.
    • Must have acceptable health to carry out the responsibilities of the position including lifting, moving, and participating in activities with children at their level.
    • Must complete CLASS (Classroom Assessment Scoring System) training, receive reliability certification, and maintain reliability status.
    • Strong organizational skills, including keen attention to detail and ease at managing competing demands and determining priorities independently.

     37.5 hours per week/46 weeks per year - *Summers off and unemployment eligible*

    Monday through Friday - 8 am to 4 pm

    Grade 11 - Non-Exempt Plus
