The Community Service Officer- Student position is a great opportunity to learn about and obtain valuable experience in law enforcement. Perform a variety of non-emergency duties that assist police officers in the delivery of services to the general public. Focused attention on the public parks, tennis courts, and beaches within the city.
Examples of Duties
- Assist citizens to comply with local ordinances and state laws.
- Patrol the parks, tennis courts, beaches, etc.
- Assist police officers as needed.
- Alert the Communications Center regarding safety hazards.
- Perform the duties of a bailiff for the municipal court.
- Assist with traffic control activities at special events, parades, etc.
- Provide information and assistance to the general public.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Supplemental Information
- Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully.
- Ability to operate motor vehicles as well as the ability to effectively patrol on foot.
- The ability to present oneself in a neat, clean uniformed appearance is essential.
- Willingness to perform a wide variety of tasks.
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of this position.
- Ability to understand and retain knowledge of local ordinances and state laws which are applicable to visitors of recreational areas.
- Ability to understand and retain knowledge of traffic laws as well as laws regulating the use of alcohol and the control of prohibited substances.
