Ocosta Jr / Sr High School is now accepting applications for the following Coaching positions :
Spring : HS Head Track, HS Assist. Track, JH Head Track; JH Assist. Track
Fall : HS Head Soccer (Girls)
Priority consideration will be given to applicants with a valid Washington State teaching certificate with an appropriate endorsement who would be qualified for anticipated teaching vacancies.
The successful candidate will have successful coaching experience in this sport, either at the head or assistant level, meet the WIAA coaching certification standards, and possess or be willing to obtain a valid First Aid / CPR card.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
Develop fundamental skills and an understanding of the rules of the sport in participants; model and foster cooperation, sportsmanship and ethical behavior, instill a sense of self-esteem in winning and dignity in losing.
Develop and implement best strategies and methods to effectively carry out the coaching system; organize and schedule practice sessions to ensure the best use of time, facilities, and staff; attend and coach participates at all regular season and post-season games. Coordinate training or practices with JH and youth programs of the same sport.
Monitor participant behavior from the time they report for practice until they leave for home; apply necessary discipline in a firm and positive manner.
Review eligibility requirements and District eligibility code with participants; ensure eligibility of participants; ensure completion of necessary forms by deadlines.
Maintain a safe environment for participants; use up-to-date and appropriate training methods to minimize injury; take appropriate safety precautions during practices and games; follow appropriate injury procedures and games; follow appropriate injury procedures and complete and submit accident report forms for each student injured.
Be responsible for equipment and supplies used and exercise appropriate care for facilities. Complete annual inventory, issue and check out equipment, mark equipment for identification, ensure the cleaning, repairing and storing of equipment at the end of each season; request purchase of needed equipment and supplies for following season; maintain budget and capacity for program; recommend improvements to facilities as necessary and appropriate.
Maintain records related to sport; issues or arrange for the issuing of certificates, letters and special awards.
Consult with Athletic Director and building administrator on issues when necessary.
Report scores and results promptly and accurately to Athletic Director or required postings.
Qualifications :
Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive relationships with students, staff and the community.
Ability to establish good will and effectively promote the athletic program in the community.
Ability to articulate a well-defined and understandable coaching philosophy.
Ability to emphasize ethical competition, sportsmanship, leadership and citizenship among coaches and athletes.
Ability to positively motivate athletes and promote teamwork.
Ability to listen well and communicate positively and clearly.
Ability to consistently apply established team rules and regulations.
Ability to be firm but fair in enforcing expectations of behavior with athletes.
Ability to apply developmentally and age appropriate methods to coaching student athletes.
Ability to apply knowledge of safe training practices and appropriate injury procedures.
Position is not eligible for health or retirement benefits.
Employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a Washington State Patrol, FBI fingerprint criminal history background check, and Sexual Misconduct background check.
