Project Engineer II


MAJOR FUNCTION

The Project Engineer II's overall function is to provide field engineering/QC to the project. His/ her main responsibility will be to assist the Project Manager and the Superintendent with the technical aspects of the project. The Project Engineer II establishes project practices and procedures including ones related to safety, quality, cost, and schedule. This includes, but is not limited to field engineering, QC, submittals, bidding, estimating, costing, purchasing materials and invoicing. The Project Engineer will also consult/coordinate QC procedures and staffing of QC Specialists with the Project manager. The Project Engineer reports to Project Management.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Embrace Odin’s Core Values in all aspects of the job
  • Implementing a site Quality Control program that adheres to Odin’s SOP's, project specifications, and approved work plans.
  • Developing/implementing training for QC personnel onsite.
  • Manage, interpret, and perform site surveying.
  • Leads projects of diverse scope, while working independently with limited supervision.
  • Manage project changes and the decision-making process.
  • Perform QC testing on projects.
  • Trains and mentors employees while delegating work appropriately.
  • Monitors schedules, budgets and estimates through completion to ensure the project finishes on time and within budget.
  • Perform field engineering which may include surveying, as-builts, reading blueprints, and manage REIs
  • Project Engineer should have functional computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word; digitizer; AutoCAD, other programs), for scheduling, quantities, take off and calculations.
  • Assisting Project Manager with estimating and bidding projects.
  • Assist with the management of subcontractors.
  • Assisting Project Manager with submittals, purchasing of materials, costing, production tracking and invoicing on projects.
  • Collaborates with project staff to create a strategic action plan and cost estimates of materials, time, labor, and other resources required to complete the project.
  • Recommends and/or analyzes materials, equipment, and practices used in the project.
  • Assesses the competence, capabilities, resources, and financial status of vendors.
  • Supervises progress of development project.
  • Compares the actual cost of development project to estimates.
  • Collaborates with design group to change plans if problems arise.
  • Analyzes equipment, systems, processes, and systems to identify modifications to improve efficiency, increase quality, and reduce costs.
  • Prepares periodic progress and cost reports for leadership.
  • Ensures compliance with codes, guidelines, best practices, and policies.
  • Collaborates with the operations department to identify and troubleshoot problems.
  • Collaborates with project engineers from other plans to share problems and solutions.


SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE:

  • Candidates must possess a relevant four-year degree from an accredited university.

- Fields include but are not limited to: Earth and Mineral Sciences, Geology, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Civil Engineering, Technology, Construction Management, Environmental Resources Management, Environmental Engineering, or any other environmentally related or construction-related field.

- Also, several years’ experience performing QC/engineering functions accompanied by a four-year (non-industry related) degree will also be considered by Odin Management.

  • The Project Engineer is responsible for following/implementing designated QA/QC's SOPs and project requirements in the field and reporting problems related to quality to management.

- The Project Engineer has the authority to "stop work" in the event safety and/or QC conflicts ensue. Additional authority, with respect to submittals, costing, etc., will vary according to project difficulty, size, and complexity.

  • Must be highly detail-oriented with solid analytical and problem-solving skills and desire to be a team player.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with vendors, management, and other coworkers, both individually and in front of a group
  • Regular use of the telephone and email for communication is essential
  • Sitting for extended periods of time is common
  • Hearing, vision, and speaking within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information, and to prepare or inspect documents
  • No heavy lifting is expected, though exertion of up to 25 pounds of force may occasionally be required
  • Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computers, calculator, copiers, and fax machines
  • Good reasoning ability is important, must be able to understand and utilize management reports, memos, and other documents to conduct business
  • Primarily a site position. Site visits and field project visits are required. Travel to offices and projects in various locations around the country as needed. The following physical activities are often, but not always, associated with site visits:

- Must be able to stand or walk on a project site for extended durations

- When on project sites or if performing some types of work or activities, must wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to earplugs, protective eyewear, gloves, hard hat, steel-toed work boots, and high visibility safety apparel.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This job is primarily performed in the field on a construction site. Occasionally, an in-office setting will be required.

The following environmental/atmospheric working conditions are commonly, but not always, associate with the performance of this position. The actual working conditions will vary.

· Job site environment, including, but not limited to, machines, tools, heavy equipment, chemicals, solvents, dust, and fumes

· Occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions

· Uneven ground

Salary : $80,000 - $120,000
