VOLUNTEER SUMMARY:
Gallery Guide Volunteers aid the Education team by focusing on enhancing the guest experience through educational opportunities. Volunteers will spend time alongside Team Members in a supportive role with the opportunity to welcome and educate guests about diverse animals. Volunteers will be instrumental in the guest experience by contributing to educational opportunities at touch exhibits, roving engagement through aquarium galleries, and live interpretation at animal exhibits. This Volunteer role requires 8 hours per month for a minimum 3-month commitment in order to maintain active Volunteer status. Any necessary role specific Volunteer training occurs onsite.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create fun, safe, educational, and positive guest interactions and experiences daily.
- Understand and maintain accurate educational information about animals, habitats, OdySea Aquarium, and conservation messaging.
- Ensure safety rules are observed at touch exhibits and throughout the aquarium.
- Proactively engage guests in a friendly and courteous manner. Uphold standards of excellence in guest experience.
- Provide guests with assistance, visit information, and recommendations regarding exhibits, animals, and additional programming.
- Public speaking in front of both large and small groups, sometimes on microphone.
- Assist as needed with guest flow, including school groups and crowd points throughout the building.
- Follow all policies and procedures set forth by OdySea Aquarium or OdySea Aquarium Foundation including adherence to zoological grooming standards.
Requirements
VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Satisfactory completion of a background check and drug screen.
- Must be comfortable greeting and engaging with guests with the possibility of speaking on microphone. Required to frequently talk and hear.
- Willingness to be flexible, learn, and multitask. Positive attitude, strong work ethic, team oriented, responsible, and enthusiastic.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time, as well as walk.
- No impairment of senses that might interfere with ability to complete tasks.
- Must be able to take cues directly or indirectly.
- Ability to complete tasks in an environment that may be loud, wet, or humid at times.
