Your New Role – Behavioral Health Initiative Policy Coordinator!
The Behavioral Health Initiative Policy Coordinator assists the Initiative Director to advance the Governor’s agenda, including policy and legislative research and high-quality project management of initiative projects, according to project management methods, guidelines, and principles and ensures compliance with laws, regulations, policies, standards, or procedures.
The Behavioral Health Initiative is focused on ensuring that every Oregonian should have access to healthcare, including behavioral health services and supports – no matter where they live or what they can afford. This includes building a behavioral health continuum of care that will meet people where they are and provide culturally responsive services to meet their mental health and addiction needs. The Behavioral Health initiative is currently focused on expanding effective treatment capacity across Oregon, increasing and supporting a high-quality behavioral health workforce, and implementing effective deflection programs and jail-based services for people with substance use challenges who are at risk of becoming engaged with, or who are engaged with the criminal justice system.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, Behavioral or Social Sciences, Finance, Political Science or any degree demonstrating the capacity for the knowledge and skills; and two years professional-level evaluative, analytical and planning work.
OR
- Any combination of experience and education equivalent to five years of experience that typically supports the knowledge and skills for the classification
Requested Attributes:
- Experience synthesizing complex topics and communicating topics and recommendations in various formats for different audiences.
- Experience in communicating orally and in writing with a diverse array of people including those most impacted by structural forms of oppression, policymakers, agency leaders, advocates or other partners.
- Experience applying rules, policies, and procedures to specific work situations.
- Demonstrated experience in exercising good judgment, discretion, and confidentiality.
- Experience and comfort in using a wide array of business tools including Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, project management tools, Google Drive, Zoom, survey tools.
- Experience working in federal, state or local government, or in large organization project management and coordination.
- Experience in managing large or complex projects; comfort with ambiguity and skilled at navigating ambiguity to move a project forward, including by elevating need for greater clarity from project leads.
- Knowledge of project management principles, processes, and techniques.
- Experience monitoring and tracking project budgets, schedules, and performance.
- Knowledge of methods and techniques of organizational research and analysis.
