Summary The Volpe National Transportation Systems Center, (U.S. Department of Transportation), improves transportation by anticipating and addressing emerging issues and advancing technical innovations across all transportation modes. With a workforce of over 600, Volpe partners with public and private organizations to assess transportation needs, evaluate research and development endeavors, assist in the deployment of state-of-the-art technologies, and inform transportation decision and policymaking. Responsibilities As a IT Specialist, you will : Provide consultation, engineering, and operational support services for Volpe Center’s enterprise network services. Serve as Subject Matter Expert in the Volpe Center’s network infrastructure (wired and wireless) to ensure coverage, security, and availability are optimized. Represent the network engineering section in planning for the installation and implementation of new systems, or upgrade of an existing system and leading efforts to define post-implementation support requirements. Utilize knowledge of network engineering to support and secure the Volpe Center’s General Support System and enterprise applications. Monitor and ensure the vigorous application of network and systems design to ensure the implementation of appropriate systems security policies, procedures, and standards. Ideal candidate is a seasoned professional, motivated self-starter who can share their expertise in planning, development, and implementation of cybersecurity incident management and response programs; establishing policies and processes / procedures to prevent, mitigate, and remediate cyber risks across the dynamic Departmental organization IT infrastructure; and knowledgeable of collective cybersecurity policies and best practices. Qualifications To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience qualifications. To qualify for the Grade 14, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-13, it must include : Experience designing, implementing, overseeing, and monitoring the design, integration, and implementation of IT systems (voice, video and data) to support a large number of customers. Experience implementing and maintaining network-based hardware technology such as Cisco, Firewalls, Wireless, VoIP, LAN / WAN, Enterprise network security, 802.11 wireless solution, IPv4 to IPv6 migration planning, or VTC for multiple locations across various regions, local and state.
