Inside Applications Engineer - Optical Connectivity and Premises Cabling
The Inside Applications Engineer (IAE) will serve as the primary product application consultant for customers, OFS sales, and the OFS customer care team. The IAE will learn and develop a deep understanding of relevant OFS products and solutions.
The IAE will receive and respond to routine and complex inquiries on the application and use of OFS products and solutions to meet customer needs. Routine inquires will typically involve matching customer needs to the appropriate OFS product or solution. Complex inquiries may require working with solutions engineering, PLM, customer care, or product engineering to learn customer pain points, configure a customer valued solution, and support sales to position the solution to generate incremental profitable revenue for OFS.
The IAE will support sales and customer care in providing web-based and occasiocally in person training, and occasionally provide technical responses for RFPs. The applications supported will be FTTx including SFUs, MDUs, FTTH, FTTB, 4G / 5G wireless fronthaul and backhaul, central offices, data centers, and may be supported by combinations of OFS optical fiber, cable, connectivity, or fusion splicers.
The ISE will train customer care members on OFS product basics during periodic "lunch and learns" to help that team more effectively engage customers. At times the IAE may visit customers or conduct webinars to help promote OFS products and solutions.
The travel requirement is anticipated to be up to 5% of calendar days per year. The preferred location is in the OFS Carrollton, GA location or OFS Global HQ Office in Norcross, GA. The position will primarily cover the U.S. 50 states and Canada, and occasionally Europe, Asia, or CALA.
Essential Qualifications (Required)
- BS in engineering, science, business, marketing or equivalent experience.
- Understanding of optical fiber, fiber optic cable, and optical connectivity products and applications.
- Desire and motivation to learn and develop expert detailed understanding of optical fiber, fiber optic cable, and optical connectivity products, associated industry standards, and applications.
- Demonstrated proficient written, oral communications and interpersonal / teamwork skills.
- Demonstrated effective technical writing skills.
- Experience preparing and confidently delivering clear, concise, and compelling presentations to an audience resulting in a favorable outcome.
- Ability to manage and adjust to multiple changing priorities while meeting commitments on time with high quality.
- Aptitude and interest in learning, teaching and training.
- Proficient speaker and writer of English.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, and Excel, Expert with MS-PowerPoint.
