MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN I - CEMETERY

Division: Parks & Trails - Cemetery Maintenance
Pay Grade: GRADE 120: $43,489.03 - $63,059.09 Annual Salary ($20.91 - $30.32 Hourly Rate).
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Full-Time, Eligible for benefits.
GENERAL PURPOSE
This position performs a variety of semi-skilled duties involved in the planning, care, and maintenance of the Ogden City Cemetery and performs specialized projects as required. Receives general supervision from the Parks Structural Maintenance Supervisor and direct functional supervision from the Parks Cemetery Maintenance Crew Leader. May be responsible for Weber County Community Service Workers periodically and will carry out rules and policies associated with this program. Also, may serve as a field foreman over up to six seasonal and PT employees.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- To assist in opening and closing grave sites in preparation and breakdown of scheduled interments, dis-interments and cremains placement.
- To assist with general maintenance of cemetery properties. I.E. general cemetery landscape and burial site maintenance.
- To assist with both major and minor irrigation repairs as necessary.
- Perform maintenance of plant beds and other assigned areas.
- Identify, order, receive, install, and maintain all related materials.
- Perform a variety of semi-skilled duties involved in the planning, care, and maintenance of all cemetery properties and facilities.
- Ability to use a computer or electronic device to aid in job functions.
- Participate in a variety of facilities maintenance duties including maintaining park buildings, installing, and maintaining fencing, repairing park benches, leveling the base paths on the baseball fields, and clearing debris from the parking lots and other areas.
- Participate in a variety of park and cemetery maintenance duties including plant maintenance and landscape duties including trimming and removing trees and shrubs, pulling weeds, mowing, and edging lawns, preparing for and laying sod, raking recreation areas, watering plants and trees, sweeping, and clearing fallen trees from the public paths and walkways.
- Prepare documentation regarding safety checks.
- Inspect and operate a variety of tools and equipment including power tools, dump trucks, lawn mowers, edgers, trimmers and blowers.
- Perform general maintenance duties including refueling, changing oil, and lubricating parts; make minor adjustments as necessary.
- Maintain bathrooms including repairing broken fixtures; replace toilets and sinks.
- Painting as required.
- Assist with set-up, take-down, and running of special events including Ogden's Christmas Village and the Ogden Pioneer Day's Rodeo.
- Pick up litter from grounds and empty trash containers throughout assigned area.
- Assist with the construction and refurbishing of various structures.
- Prepare ground and set forms for concrete, pour and finish concrete.
- Patrol and inspect cemetery to ensure the safety of the public and park facilities, note possible safety hazards or causes of injury and contact appropriate law enforcement or emergency agency as required.
- Perform snow and ice control/removal with shovels, plows, blowers, and spreaders.
- Prepare appropriate reports and documentation.
- Perform special projects as assigned; perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery, for example tractor, backhoe, skid steer, etc.
- Participate in safety and risk management activities; take action to reduce liability to the city.
- Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. Employee is required to work as a team and frequently meet with co-workers and supervisors; employee is required to communicate in-person with the public during office hours; and employees are required to use on-site equipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- At least one year of experience in any of the following areas; irrigation installation or maintenance, commercial mowing/turf care, flower bed design, installation, or maintenance, building and grounds maintenance, sports turf management, or trails maintenance.
- High school diploma or its equivalent.
- Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain a Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper (QWEL) Certification within one year of hire.
- Possession of or ability to obtain within 150 days, a Utah State Class A CDL with tanker and air brake endorsements.
- Desired possession of or ability to obtain Utah State Pesticide Category 3 Turf and Ornamental Applicators License.
- Employees will be required to complete NIMS IS100 and IS700 within six months of hire.
