This position is with Green Power EMC (GPEMC). Green Power EMC is a not-for-profit corporation founded in 2001 to support 38 of Georgia's EMCs in their search for renewable resources. It is the largest operational green power program in the Southeastern United States. Green Power EMC serves its member EMCs by finding, screening, analyzing and negotiating power purchase agreements with Georgia-based renewable resource providers including solar, landfill gas, hydro and wind.
Oversee the accounting and financial activities for Green Power EMC, including financial reporting, analysis, and origination. Lead the assessment and implementation of appropriate accounting tools, processes and workflow for GPEMC. This position is an individual contributor role with a diverse range of duties, including administrative functions and strategic financial oversight.
Job Duties:
- Oversee or prepare Green Power EMC, and its subsidiaries, invoices and ensure accurate and timely processing of accounts payable functions.
- Record expenses and revenues with accompanying accounting analyses and monthly reconciliations, ensuring meticulous tracking of expenses and budget.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, notes to financial statements, and reports for senior staff.
- Manage GPEMC's annual budget and prepare monthly reports for senior staff including the current year budget-to-actual comparison and year-end forecast of all budget categories. This activity requires close coordination with GPEMC staff responsible for each functional area and authorized to approve expenses.
- Coordinate with the OPC Billing Department to ensure GPEMC bills to member EMCs are accurate and timely. Assist in the analysis of monthly billing data and related documentation.
- Develop and maintain documentation for key business processes, accounting policies, and job responsibilities.
- Collaborate and liaise between Member Relations, Tax, and the Controller groups, as well as other supporting teams to maintain the integrity of financial records and ensure timely payments.
- Perform data analysis to support financial decisions and provide insights for improving expenditure profiles.
- Prepare necessary documentation for internal and external audits to ensure compliance with accounting standards.
- Perform ad hoc financial analysis and recommendations for senior staff for prospective, new or existing GPEMC projects. Solicit and provide necessary information for the completion of ad-hoc projects and analyses as requested by senior management.
- Identify areas for improvement for all routine GPEMC accounting and financial activities and recommend and implement approved improvements.
- Support the completion of special projects and ad-hoc assignments as directed by senior management.
- This role requires a proactive approach to managing accounting and financial operations, ensuring accuracy in reporting, and collaborating effectively across departments. The individual will exercise autonomy and thought leadership, acting as a key liaison between internal stakeholders and providing analytical support for decision-making processes.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or similar discipline. A Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration and CPA is preferred.
Experience: 5 years of experience with a range of accounting, finance, and business administration functions and duties. Utility experience is preferred.
Equivalent Experience: Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in the applicable industry.
Specialized Skills:
- Proven experience in managing accounting and financial functions, including a strong ability to interpret and analyze accounting and financial statements.
- Knowledge of accounting and tax principles, with experience handling tax-related duties.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High level of proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Keen attention to detail and meticulous tracking of financial data.
