What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Energy & Operational Interfaces Specialist position at Oglethorpe Power Corporation?
This position will be devoted to the management and administration of the Member Scheduling Policies and Procedures (MSPP), Resource Data Guide (RDG), Control Area Compact (CAC), Planned Outage Optimization Scheduling, Outage Management System, and Certain Operations Interface OPPs. As a Senior Energy and Operational Interfaces Specialist, this position will not only support the Director of Operational Interfaces in interfacing with various departments within the Family of Companies, but will take the lead in ensuring the contractual and operational execution of the OPC business model concerning the Member Scheduling Policies and Procedures (MSPP), Rate Schedule A (RSA), and the Wholesale Power Contract - ensuring that best practices are in place for Member EMCs to leverage the value of the generation assets they subscribe to through OPC.
To achieve this goal, this position must ensure that staff at both OPC and GSOC receive the proper guidance and directives on how the MSPP is to be interpreted and implemented.
- On occasion, this position will also be responsible for preparing and delivering various presentations to OPC Executives, and Scheduling Member Group Committee as necessary.
- With respect to GSOC system dispatch, this position will be responsible for ensuring that GSOC is optimally performing an integrated economic dispatch of all OPC resources in accordance with the MSPP, GSOC-OPC Operation Services Agreement, GSOC-OPC Generation Services Agreement, and Control Area Compact.
- In doing so, this position will facilitate the daily communication between GSOC, Fuels, and Plant Operations. It will also lead monthly Single System Dispatch meetings with GSOC and prepare meeting minutes for distribution up the chain to senior management.
- Additionally, as a senior associate, this position should have the technical capability to perform high-level analysis for supporting department projects through data analysis, modeling, and presentation.
- This position will also serve as a backup for departmental power marketing and gas trading activities for deferred resources.
Job Duties:
- Ensure the contractual and operational execution of the OPC business model in accordance with the Member Scheduling Policies and Procedures (MSPP), Rate Schedule A (RSA), and the Wholesale Power Contract - ensuring that best practices are in place for Member EMCs to leverage the value of the generation assets they subscribe to through OPC. To achieve this goal, this position must ensure that staff at both OPC and GSOC are given the proper guidance and directives as to how the MSPP is to be interpreted and implemented. This position must work with the Billing department to ensure MSPP-related information is communicated and properly billed. Additionally, this position identifies and recommends policy/procedural improvements to adapt to system changes.
- Manage Plant Planned Outage Optimization process including annual 5 Year Outage Plan coordination and Outage Management System Administrator.
- Facilitate monthly GSOC Single System Dispatch and Daily Morning Dispatch Coordination Call, Manage Daily ERP Procurement, and Backup to Daily Marketing Activities.
- Participate in regularly scheduled CAC meetings. Review monthly CAC invoice and flag any items of interest.
- Prepare departmental operations reports/presentations. For example, monthly ERP Reports, System Setup Executive Reporting, Ops Excellence, SMG Committee Meetings, and other ad-hoc reporting requests.
- Backup for other operational interfaces specialist rotational duties that are time-sensitive
Required Qualifications:
Education: B.S. Degree in Engineering from an accredited program preferred. Non-engineering degrees or technical training with demonstrated experience to be considered.
Experience: 10 years of experience in power supply and system operations-related fields. Diverse backgrounds and experiences are positive. Good business skills, and excellent communications skills.
Equivalent Experience: Equivalent to an Engineering or Business degree or 10 years of specific experience in power supply and power systems operations. Energy and Fuels Wholesale markets knowledge is a plus.
Specialized Skills:
- PE is desirable.
- Knowledge of power market economics and power system operations.
- Effective communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to develop and/or use computer programs, especially Microsoft Excel, Project, and PowerPoint.
Salary : $124,000 - $155,000
