Job Details
Description
The Oglethorpe University Mathematics Program is seeking adjunct instructors to teach Precalculus during the Fall 2025 semester (with other courses possible during later semesters). The lecture sections enroll no more than 22 students so the learning environment is ideal for one-on-one faculty-student interactions and for implementing innovative pedagogical strategies. Successful applicants must be interested in progressive, student-centered models of mathematical instruction. Applicants will be expected to foster an inclusive learning environment by engaging in and promoting diverse teaching, learning, and mentoring communities.
Teaching assignments will be based on instructor experience, areas of expertise, and availability. Course sections meet 3 hours/week (either three 60-minute sessions or two 90-minute sessions). The semester runs from August 25th to December 5th, with final exams in the following week. Final grades for the semester are due on Tuesday, December 16th. For more information about the teaching schedule, please reach out to Brian Patterson, Chair of the Division of Mathematics and Computer Science ( bpatterson@oglethorpe.edu ).
Oglethorpe is committed to fostering a campus community and intellectual environment that recruits and maintains diverse faculty and staff, promotes a culture of respect for diverse experiences and perspectives, and understands and addresses the role of inequality in shaping our individual and collective identities. We value faculty mentorship and support faculty teaching, research, and development. Adjunct faculty will be mentored and supported by Mathematics Program faculty who are committed to excellence in teaching and fostering a collaborative community.
The university currently enrolls a diverse population of nearly 1,500 students who represent more than 30 states and 30 countries. More than half of Oglethorpe’s students identify as persons of color and 40 percent are the first in their families to attend college. Candidates from historically excluded groups, whose work furthers the institution’s diversity, equity, and inclusion goals, and who bring varied life experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.
Oglethorpe University has entered an era of innovation, reinvigoration, and growth with the opening of the $16M Turner Lynch Campus Center in 2013 and the $22M Cousins Center for Science and Innovation in 2019. Renowned for its groundbreaking Core program, Oglethorpe is a member of the Annapolis Group, comprised of the nation’s most selective liberal arts institutions, and has been named among U.S. News & World Report’s Best Liberal Arts Colleges, Forbes’ America’s Best Colleges, and Princeton Review’s Best Southeastern Colleges.
