Position Overview
Develops and executes advocacy and community engagement campaigns that include grassroots mobilization and leadership. Integrates advocacy and community engagement work with internal and external teams and partners. Recruits, develops, and supports Ohio Community Health Centers' teams to advance advocacy campaign goals and objectives. Leads the associations' advocacy calls to action, social media campaigns, and maintains the advocacy platform. Supports the promotion and communication of the association by designing and developing materials and supporting leadership in external public relations.
Responsibilities:
- Recruit and retain Health Center teams, board members, patients, and stakeholders to be active Health Center advocates and achieve the organization’s advocacy goals at the state and federal levels.
- Utilize community organizing tactics and implements grassroots advocacy tools to build support for the organization’s legislative priorities.
- Maintain and optimize advocacy platform and best practices for increasing advocacy at the state and federal levels.
- Support leadership in external public relations, with emphasis on driving digital/social media tactics.
- Collaborate with internal/external partners on advocacy campaign communication strategy development.
- Convene meetings to disseminate findings, share best practices, and advance solutions through relevant communication channels.
- Design, edit, and communicate persuasive materials aligned with the organization’s priorities to diverse audiences.
- Establish strategic community partnerships and leverage internal/external resources to raise the visibility of the organization.
- Promote National Health Center Week and support membership in coordinating Health Centers tours with state and federal elected officials.
- Support administrative efforts and scheduling for meetings at the Statehouse and on the Hill for advocacy days.
- Support OACHC/membership’s efforts in NACHC advocacy programs (ACE, etc.)
- Support leadership with Outreach and Enrollment
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Political Science, Public Relations, Communications, Business, Social or Human Sciences, or a related discipline and 2 years of experience.
- Experience with relationship building and using grassroots techniques to influence legislation at the state and federal level.
- Commitment to non-partisanship.
- Experience with design and copywriting for digital and print media.
- Experience with recruiting, engaging, and managing advocates and a demonstrated commitment to empowering advocates.
- Ability to develop both short and long-term strategies and tactical plans to achieve success in both legislative advocacy and grassroots campaigns.
- Knowledge of Community Health Centers/Federally Qualified Health Centers or working with a membership association a plus.
- Comfort with the Microsoft Office suite, internal reporting systems, and ability and willingness to learn new functionality.
